16oz can pours a nearly opaque brown-black color with a small, fizzy cap of light brown-colored head that retreats to a thick island in the center of the glass and a ring around the edge. Lots of small, solid chunks of spices at the bottom of the glass. After you pour the rest of the can, the color seems to change to a slightly lighter reddish-brown color. Smells of cinnamon, cloves, orange, and hearty, dark bread; it really smells like Christmas. Extremely rich dark malt flavor with lots of molasses and hearty bread flavors accompanied by a nice blend of warm and sweet spice flavors. Can certainly pick out the cinnamon, clove, allspice, and orange that are mentioned on the side of the can, but I don't really taste the chocolate that is also mentioned. Slight sweetness and syrupy feel with a moderate bitterness to close, followed by a somewhat sour aftertaste. Medium to full-bodied with a slight alcohol heat and flavor and a moderate carbonation mouthfeel.
This was enjoyable, but I kind of got tired of the spice flavor by the time I was halfway through the beer. Probably better suited to a 12oz can, especially considering the 7.5% ABV. Good but wouldn't buy again.
