In honor of Officer Mathias Degan, the first of Chicago's Finest to lose their lives in the line of duty during the Haymarket Affair. Copious amounts of Citra Hops deliver wonderful citrus and mango notes. At 10% ABV, we feel Mathias is a proper representation of the strength and courage of our Boys in Blue. Raise one to thank the fine Officers of the Chicago Police Department for their sacrifice.

On tap at Haymarket on 9/19/14.
This was a complete surprise. I was blown away by the amazing hop complexity on the nose - citrus, tropical and herbal all whirled together for a wonderful aroma. The flavor matched the nose. Very juicy with a great bitter finish with lots of oily hop resins. An amazing beer.

Tasted it at the brewery on Tuesday 2014-09-09 and was blown away. Bought a growler and brought it home, split it with my brothers in law today, 2014-09-13. TSA was kind enough to open it and reseal it poorly, so it leaked and had a little extra air in it. Put a tap it cap on it Thursday night.
Pours cloudy amber with a medium head, fine slow carbonation. Smell is gorgeous, fresh and floral and vegetative and piney and citrus and pineapple.
Taste is intense. Very sweet, very hoppy, extremely well balanced. Lots of tropical juiciness, pine, vegetation, so much goodness.
Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Overall, this beer is world class. It competes with Pliny the Elder and the Younger, Abrasive, Hopslam, all the best beers I've ever had. I remain stunned that I walked into this little local brewery and this just dropped into my lap. Fantastic.

Had on tap at haymarket. Poured into a goblet and pours dark orange color with a good small head.
Powerful and deep aromas of pine cones, resin, navel oranges, hops and loads of citrus and guava. There are good layers of aromas in this with the fresh hops being upfront and notable.
Full bodied with a really good and smooth feel. Not as layered, but the notes of guava, hops, pine cones and resin are still delicious.
Was offered this up as an alternative to the normal mathias by the bartender. I absolutely loved this and it is an amazing Imperial IPA.
