This sounded a very good and intriguing beer and a chance to have it from a hand-pump was too good to pass up.
Arrives nearly black with a small, medium tan head that left no lace at all.
Smell is malt, wood and something that I have never smelled anywhere near a beer, the VOC's of fresh paint! Imagine spilling your beer on a freshly cut piece of wood next to an open can of paint and you'll have the idea. But after many minutes of sniffing it turns out to be more like watermelon flavored bubblegum, cloying and uber-sweet.
Taste is toast, malt and the aforementioned bubblegum note that, thankfully, fades as it warms. Balance is just ok.
Weakish body that tries to be medium and fails. Very light effervescence, almost flat. Decent flavor (after warming and the paint fumes dissipate) but its only that. No spiciness or spice note even from the poblanos, no vanilla anywhere near it either.
I should have passed it up.
