Enjoyed on-tap @ Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria in Asheville, NC for $3.75. Tapped from an unknown tap handle (since sitting @ a table) into a 16oz Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria Pint Glass.
Aroma- A light hop aroma starts this one up. Then has a light amount of fruitiness and citrus. Cloves may be around but nothing else.
Appearance- Received with a 1 finger head that dies quickly. Has a golden, clear body and then barely leaves suds after.
Flavor- The flavor doesn't quite do it for me... Light citrus and fruit along with the malt flavors and then has a lasting dry finish. Come come with the complexity.
Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, Medium-Full Carbonation, a bit Effervescent, but nothing else hits the palate. Goes down semi-dry with tons of malt.
Overall Impression- Not quite the beer I was looking for... First, it did not have as much spice or fruit strength that I'm used to in the style. I will keep going down the line with Catawba's brews but hoping for a more positive review next time! Strange how this says "retired" on BA too...

Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured golden yellow with a half finger pure white head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, cider, and spices. The flavor was of malt, bread, wheat, rye, subtle spices, and corn. It had a light feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall I wasn't really a big fan of this one. The flavors were very light on this one, but they just went that pleasant when you did taste them. It would probably be better if they were to have dialed in on one or two flavors and enhanced them.

On draught at Barleys, Asheville Appearance: lovely golden color (like a true Pils-type), and a thin head that sticks around. Nose: almost none. Taste: more similar to a Biere de Garde than a Saison,for sure. Wheat, cornbread predominate, with a nice sour finish. I was hoping for more. Palate: very enjoyable. Great, smooth, and light on the throat. Overall: Even though its not high gravity (5.5% ABV), this is not a session beer. It would be stellar with cheese. I would probably opt to leave the corn out, but hey, it makes it interesting. As the pint went on, I discovered that it was much better as it warmed -- dont drink this beer too cold! I gave it higher marks as it came to room temperature.
