growler from Bruisin', consumed somewhere nearby, review from notes taken awhile back

a: pitch black in colour, sporting a frothy, thick mocha head that retains well

s: beautiful coffee nose, lots of fresh roasted bean with that cold-brewed smoothness and no harsh side, rich malts underneath add a roasty sweet backbone that allows the coffee to shine while offering full support

m: thick and smooth bodied, the delicate carbonation works well

t: the lovely coffee character carries over from the nose, but the malts seem to have fallen away a bit, maybe a little more richness from them would be nice, but their roasty flavors and slight caramel sweetness still to a pretty nice job of setting things off

o: a very nice coffee stout with with some fantastic roast character, not the best out there, but well above the middle of the pack

For some reason this is the first beer I have on my list for our malt liquor tasting.

A - Blackish brown beer with a little beige head that left some spots on the sides.

S - If you like coffee, this is actually really nice. Great roasted coffee and espresso aromas, along with a little unsweetened cocoa and vanilla.

T - Taste is a big let down. Coffee flavor is a bit thin, and really needed something else there to give the flavor more heft. Think coffee gone cold and bitter.

M - Medium bodied with a little too much carbonation.

O - It's not a great beer, even if it is farily easy to get down. Don't want this again.

12oz growler shared by Jason. Served in a Cigar City tulip.

A - Black body with some brownish glints. Light tan foam settles to a collar and a few wisps on top, leaving some spotty lace behind.

S - Smell is delicious. Tons of fantastic coffee, with some vanilla and roasted malts mixed in for good measure. Really explodes out of the glass.

T - Unfortunately the taste is large step back. Chalky and bitter, with minimal sweetness. Almost like watery coffee.

M - Body is medium-light, and isn't too thin for 5.2%. Still, the texture is watery with zesty, fizzy carbonation.

D - It's very easy to drink, but it's a shame the taste didn't live up to the awesome aroma. Perhaps subsequent batches will figure it out.

In the glass the beer is black in color. Its strong, roasty and malty nose immediately brings the java sensations to the forefront. The coffee taste is readily apparent on the tongue, and the malt flavor lingers after swallowing. Not a creamy stout, and slightly more bitter than I expected. A better than average, drinkable coffee stout.

Cola colored with a nice creamy tan/light brwn colored head. Head last until the glass is empty. Sticky wet lacing.
Aroma is coffee heavy which is perfect imo. I'd love to wake up in the morning and smell this first thing.
Taste like a medium to dark roasted coffee. Maybe hints of roasted grains and chocolate but this beer is all about the coffee and that's great.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth and creamy.
Great beer, very easy to drink. Wish I had more than a growler full.

Served on draft at Barleys in Asheville for $3.75 per pint. Pours pitch black with a creamy, mocha white head.

Aroma is coffee and chocolate and other roasted grains. I really love the aroma here.

More coffee in the flavor as well as a touch of fruitiness. Coffee seems to be dominate and that is exactly what I was in the mood for in a coffee stout.

Medium bodied and so very drinkable. A great offering from a local brewery.
