I liked this red ale better than most even though it had a high IBU number. I normally like my Reds malty and not too hoppy, but this one I really like. I gave this one a high score because it had more sweetness than most red ales I've tried, which I think helped with the hoppiness.

Clear amber red with a huge off white dense head. Webs of fine bubble lace.
The smell is sweet and dank.
Taste dank pine bitterness with sweet caramel malts to balance.
Mouthfeel is medium with strong carbonation. The finish is slightly toward the dry and bitter end.
Overall one of best of this style. Bottled on 9/26/17.

22oz bottle - I like the name, even if I barely know what it means.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium orange-brick amber colour, with three flabby fingers of puffy, rocky, and chunky beige head, which leaves some complex island group pattern lace around the glass as it slowly but surely abates.

It smells of semi-sweet, bready and doughy caramel malt, metaphorically sticky toffee squares, some muddled bruised pome fruitiness, and rather understated leafy, weedy, and dank pine resin-forward green hop bitters. The taste is bready and grainy caramel malt, more indistinct dark orchard fruity esters, a bit of stewed raisins, and more mild earthy, piney, and floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is relatively active in its basically supportive frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a tad out of the ol' cellar fridge. It finishes off-dry, the malt gaining a biscuity quality that bodes well for the lingering aspect of the rest of this bomber.

Overall, this is a more or less agreeable, intensely malty brew, with just enough hops to keep things from going off of the saccharine rails. I assume now that the 'sticky' in the name references both the nature of the malt profile, and the resinous essence of hops, and uh, their biological cousins.

this is a beautiful glass of beer, my favorite of the four i had from these guys on my trip there. its a glorious red ipa, pretty as can be in the glass, crimson to brick red in color, near perfect clarity, and over an inch of tiny white bubbles that last and last. tons of carbonation racing up, really sexy brew. the nose on it truly is sticky, true to the name, a little sweet from the red malts, but even more sticky from the dank hops this is packed with. tough to call the varietals because this is malty too, but its piney and resinous and truly west coast in nature. the flavor is even better than the nose, pine for sure, maybe some centennial, simcoe, grapefruit on the back end too, but not so much juicy as it is gooey, like a concentrate, really intense, but balanced wonderfully by this special red malt, just amazing depth, freshness, and balance. usually not my favorite style here, the red ipa, but this is a nearly flawless example of it, very very drinkable, refreshing but also kind of hearty in that completely satisfying way. id love to know more about the recipe, this would be a great one to try to clone at home. top notch brew right here, as good as the style gets.
