East Coast-Style IPA
East coast or West coast? You decide. Same hops, different yeast, two deliciously unique beers. Rise East Hazy IPA is continuously dry-hopped then fermented with London III yeast for juicy notes of pineapple, mango and peach. This easy-drinking hazy IPA rises to any occasion.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass
Price: $13.00 for a 4-pack of Rise East/Set West
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa, Calif.
Purchased: April 24, 2020
Consumed: April 25, 2020
Misc.: Canned on April 2, 2020
Had Rachel pick this for me on a recent Coronvirus trip to Trader Joe’s. Not generally a fan of Coronado beers save for Weekend Vibes and a few others, but was looking forward to trying this (Rise East) and Set West. Apparently it is the same hops in each beer, but different yeast. Description on the can read, “East coast or West coast? You decide. Same hops, different yeast, two deliciously unique beers. Rise East Hazy IPA is continuously dry-hopped then fermented with London III yeast for juicy notes of pineapple, mango, and peach. This easy-drinking hazy IPA rises to any occasion.” Wish I knew the hops going in. NOTE: Later did some research and found them to be Simcoe, El Dorado and Vic Secret.
Poured a medium yellow hazy color with three fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see some slow-moving bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled peach, stone fruit, apricot, mango, guava, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit, floral and what I’m guessing is now London III yeast. A little sweeter out of the can. Was going to guess Mosaic, Amarillo, El Dorado and Vic Secret/Galaxy for hops. After some research, turns out it’s actually Simcoe, El Dorado and Vic Secret. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste was almost as good as the nose. In order for hops got Vic Secret, Simcoe and El Dorado. Also black pepper, pine, viney berry, papaya, mango rind, guava, pineapple, grapefruit, stone fruit, peach, apricot, pear and passion fruit. Lots of tropical notes. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry, bitter, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Wow. This was much better than I thought it was going to be. Outstanding overall. (Overall - 4.00)

Canned 04/02/2020. Looks, smells, and drinks the part. Solid hop profile and great drinkability. West Coast breweries just can’t seem to replicate the body, feel, and finish of the NEIPA. I enjoyed the “Set West” a bit more.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on July 19, 2019. Continuously dry-hopped then fermented with London III yeast. Notes of juicy pineapple, mango and peach.

Pours a lightly hazy sunny straw color with a solid, rocky, white head that has tremendous staying power.
Smell is summer sweet with orange and peach notes. Funny to think that this kind of aroma from a beer was mind blowing just a few years ago and it's already become somewhat pedestrian. Lovely aroma, not especially complex.
Taste has a surprisingly herbal/grassy bitterness to go along with the attendant sweet citrus/stone fruit flavors. I'm a sucker for these kind of two beers with the same hop/grain bill, just a different yeast type of things, so I enjoy seeing the softer flavors in this version compared to the west coast version. It's pleasant.
Mouthfeel is ok, definitely more wc ipa than hazy.
Overall this is a plenty tasty beer but nothing too crazy. In a 13$ 4 pack I'm not mad at all and, as stated above, I'm a sucker for these sorts of gimmicks. Nice easy drinker.

16 oz can poured into a snifter.
Hazy yellow-orange color. Off white head that leaves nice lacing.
Sweet tropical fruit and pale malts on the nose.
Mango, papaya and sweet orange on the palate. Finishes with little bitterness and building sweetness.
Nice, creamy smooth mouthfeel.
Glad I tried it but it's not very memorable. Good flavor but a bit too sweet for me.

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop 6-14-19 for $3.49. Canned on 5-22-19; consumed on 7-18-19.
Beer poured a hazy gold with a nice white head that is leaving some lacing behind.
Nose is very nice, juicy with mango and some orange.
Taste follows the nose, a nice moderate pale malt baseline fused with orange and mango. Finishes with a modest hop rind; 5/10 on my bitterness scale.
Mouthfeel is very good, soft and very refreshing.
Overall a very nice take on the ECIPA style!
