Pours a slightly cloudy honey gold yellow with a thick white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit and a bit of dank pine. Flavor follows the nose, sweet fruit up front, lots of pineapple and mango, finishes with bitter pine in the finish. Feel is medium bodied, adequately carbonated. Overall, nice enough at almost 6 months old. I'd be interested in having it a bit fresher.

Late spring 2023 find. I like it very much. 4 packs of pint cans at Trader Joe's. I would call it a great West Coast IPA. Imperial, Double, whatever... smooth and fresh!. Enjoy this collaborative effort, while it exists. From good brewers in a town of good breweries!

The Mariner, from Coronado Brewing Company x Societe Brewing Company. 16 fl oz can from @2beerdogs in NBW BIF 17. Reviewed 27/04/23 (Review 3084). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “02/27/23”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 45.5 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 53.9 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), clear.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), hazy. Under direct light, same. When rear lite, translucent.
Head: Large (Maximum 5 cm, aggressive center pour), white, medium density, average retention, rapidly retreating, leaving a 0.8 – 2.0 cm crown with a torn curtain upper rim and a heaped rocky partial layer.
Lacing – Marvelous! Looks like a volcano belching a smoke cloud! Toward the end, torn curtain lacing.
Aroma – 3.5 – Flowers and perfume, some mint, no malt, no yeast. No ethanol (8 % ABV as marked on the label) aroma.
Flavor – 3.5 – Doesn’t follow the nose. Semi-sweet with not much flavor – I’d call it a very ghostly tropical mélange. No malt, yeast, or ethanol. No gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium; juicy; soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 While the aroma is not particularly offensive, it does resemble some air freshener, not at all the advertised “floral aromas of citrus and pineapple”. The flavor does hint at the description “tropical stone fruit”. Interesting but not one I’d care to repeat.

Poured from a 16oz can
Nice hiss upon opening the can with a bit of smoke coming out of it. This beer pours clear and a nice dark golden color. There's some carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. The head that forms is 3 finger, and it looks very slightly off white. It took 2 tries to pour the whole beer into the glass. The head retention is decent, and there's some lacing on the glass.
Upon my first whiff of this beer, I got a slightly citrus aroma. I went in for another smell, and I was getting a pine aroma. I keep getting pine as I go back for another sample of the aroma.
Taste - This is a pine hop flavored beer. Very faint citrus hits for a moment, then it goes full on pine, and the pine builds on my taste buds. A second sip confirms this. This beer is not overly bitter, but has a decent amount of bitterness.
Somewhat sticky/resin feeling. Very good body.
I love a classic West Coast, and this is a delicious one.

16oz can made a bit more than 6 weeks ago, poured into a 22oz “ pint “ glass to accommodate the head. This is borderline hazy. short-lived head, barely there lacing, some suspended solids. not much smell at all. Subtle citrus flavor. I can’t identify the other flavors but it winds up being relatively tasty despite not clearly matching the label description of “tropical stone fruit, and aromas of citrus and pineapple. The mouthfeel is the star. Borderline creamy/ very smooth. Long-lived carbonation comes alive in the mouth, but not aggressively so. Very nice mouthfeel. Not my favorite double WC IPA but I would maybe do this again if I wanted a double WC IPA

Definitely not the Mariners while Ichiro was in his prime. And nope, not Errol Flynn while exploring the deep blue sea. Hell, it’s not even Errol when he died in Vancouver with multiple VD’s. It’s a bit stank… like waiting at the bank.
I wish you wonderful happiness, my children. Be well.
