IPA brewed with Ekuanot, then dry-hopped with Citra. And of course…habanero peppers. Yes…it packs some heat.

Not quite amber in color but darker than straw yellow, maybe the color of honey. Small white head. Nose is slightly citrus and a faint smell of the peppers. Taste is peppery, but not really the habanero pepper. Has a slight warmth that builds on palate slowly then some tingling builds in throat. Nothing overwhelming about the heat though. Good for a chile beer.

I. Pepper. A from Beaver Brewing. 16 fl oz can. Purchased online from Beaver Brewing, Beaver Falls, PA, 24/11/24. $ 6.44 (Including tax and shipping), $ 0.40/fl oz. Reviewed 10/12/24 (Review 3414). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 49.8 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 53.4 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), slight haze.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, translucent gold.
Head: Large (Maximum 3.8 cm, aggressive center pour), white. High density. Slowly drops to a 0.8 – 1.1 cm crown and a thin, rocky, cap.
Lacing – Good. Slightly three-dimensional band of tiny to near-microscopic bubbles with many small stalactites.
Aroma – 4 – Slightly spicy hops with peppers. No malt, no ethanol (No ABV marked on label, nor on the website). No disulfide or diacetyl.
Flavor – 4 – Begins and ends with habaneros. No hops, no malt, no alcohol. Hard and soft palates have a distinct pepper warming which slowly edges down the esophagus into the gastric mucosa.
Palate – 4 – Medium; watery approaching syrupy; lively carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA, but a better fit for “Chile Beer.”
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Lack of information (can date, ABV) is regrettable. However, this is a good chile beer based on an IPA.

16oz can served in a pint glass. Given to me by @mr-jj. I don't see a date.

Pours a dark amber with a biggish head and moderate to low carbonation. Smell is a little bit of hop resin and a little bit of peppers. Taste is a little over malty, a little under hoppy, and probably a perfect hint of peppers. Unfortunately, it doesn't balance out to a good beer -- it's OK. I don't have a date on this beer, so I don't know if it's fresh or not, but it doesn't taste like it. Pepper flavor comes out in a non-overpowering way (it helps that I like habaneros), spice comes across in a noticeable but not overwhelming way as well. I'm giving bonus points for treating the peppers well.

Mouthfeel is thick, a little chewy. Overall, it has potential, but it's not excellent as I have it in my glass. Crisp it up a little, tone down the malty breadiness and turn up the hoppy freshness, and it might be an excellent pepper beer.

Dark honey colored body; lively carbonation; nice, lasting, one-finger thick head. Fair aroma with a bit of malty sweetness. Initial taste of lightly fruity and fine malt sweetness, quickly giving way to an excellent habanero pepper spiciness. Heavy body; thick and oily; pepper heat; nice blend of hot and sweet mouthfeel.

An excellent pepper beer, but I'm not really sold on the IPA aspect. The habanero pepper has some fine kick and heat while the IPA lacks any kind of identifiable IPA characteristics as far as hop aroma or bitterness (but perhaps some of the juicy, fruity quality may be attributable to the hops). Still, a nifty chili beer if nothing else.

16 oz can, thanks for picking this up- Pours darker than expected, dark rich caramel malt color with a large off white head. Aroma is caramel malt, other than that pretty subdued. The taste is caramel malt, IPA(?), not getting that honestly, the peppers don't add as much to the flavor as i'd like, there is a medium heat burn that builds slowly as you drink, which is welcomed, otherwise i'd consider this more of a hopped up amber. Always up for a good pepper beer, and this one brings some heat.
