Had this on tap at the On Tap Bistro and Brewery 12/12/03, now open again at UTC. It won 3rd place IPA at the GABF this year.
Pours a nice orange hue, with a nice head.
Smells great. More on the woodsy side like Sierra Nevada, but with something else. you can tell that you're in for some good hops.
In the past, I've been bogged down by the bitterness of IPAs, but this time, it was very positive. A crisp bite of bitterness, a strong hit of the hop taste, and then hop aroma and floral taste stay with you til the end. The bitterness level did not seem that high. Much less than, say, Arrogant Bastard. I could not discern any particularly strong malt backbone. So this was almost all lovely hop flavor. Very quaffable. I would not have guessed it was 6%abv.
I think this is a great representative of the IPA style.

Sampled at the 2003 San Diego Real Ale Festival.
This is the beer for the hop heads amongst us. The aroma is big and resiny with grapefruit and grassy hops.
The flavor starts with a hint of malt that is quickly wiped from the palate with a sensation of deep bitter hops and tannins.
The finish is long and lingering and dry making you ready for that next draw on the glass.
The overall effect is that of a strong hop tea. Truly an interesting study in the amount of hops that can be packed into a 6.6% beer.
