Orange Blossom Pilsner

Well, either I got a very old bottle of this, or this beer is being brewed again. Certainly tastes fresh. Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a rich golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is sweet and malty. Taste is malts, honey, some grains, light hops at the finish, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a good beer I could consume several of on a hot day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Deep golden in color, almost copper with a 2 finger white head that quickly fades. Smells a bit grainy with some earthy and fresh-cut grass aromas. Nice grainy malt backbone with hints of sweetness. Hops appear in a grassy earthy form during the finish. Easy drinker with good carbonation. Sessional summer beer. I had it at the Mellow Mushroom, Myrtle Beach and it's a good beer for the beach.

I am not going to give this a standard review, mostly because I don't feel it warrants one.

To be honest I was expecting a lot from this beer, and I was let way down by it. It was like Budweiser with a slight honey/nutty/grainy back drop. The smell of it was weak, and mirrored bud, as did the look of it.

I am frankly very disappointed in OBP, the so called "Florida's Honey Beer" that is brewed in South Carolina.

I will not be trying this one again. I didn't even make it through the whole bottle.

I picked this one up the other day mostly because I had not tried it before and was wondering what it was all about. Cool looking bottle that I knew was from Thomas Creek from seeing some of the labels in the Brewery. Poured into a tall pilsner glass straight out of the fridge it produced a nice and somewhat hazy appearance. Deep golden yellow color quickly enveloped the entire glass. Lots of carbonation here as it streaked skyward constantly refreshing the two inch head of white fizz that came over the top. Very nice presentation I have to admit.

The aroma was very light. Mostly grain here with a touch of sweetness added in but you had to hunt for it. Light floral tones, I guess it was orange, but honestly too light to tell. Not a bad flavor here at all, just a little bland. Light grains, a touch of hay and some sweetness. Light bread taste in the middle and a quick, clean, and crisp cutoff in the end. Not bad, but nothing special. Very light bodies as well, with lots of carbonation keeping it feel lively throughout. Very low ABV and light profile and feel added up to something that was enormously session able.

Overall not bad, not my favorite but surely nothing terrible. I would not have an issue with trying this one again during the hot months. Give it a try as it's an understated light summer beer.

Live review. Poured from a bottle into a standard pint glass.

A: Clear copper with a small, thin head. Not much lacing to speak of.

S: Biscuit malt, light hops and honey are all up front. Notes of clean rain, earth, honeysuckle flowers and corn are detectable.

T: Highly carbonated with an almost spicy quality on the tip of the tongue. The middle is purely malt and a cereal grain taste. Hints of honey on the finish, but not enough to propel this beer into that unique spot where it should be. Maybe I'll add a spoonful myself...

D: I could polish off a sixer, nothing offensive going on here. An ok beer.

Value: The only drawback; this is expensive for an average pilsner.

Note: Not sure how this has been categorized as a "frut/vegetable beer" in another spot on this site. It is most certainly a Czech Pilsner as it contaisn only honey, no fruit.
