Picked up at Weyermann, Bamberg, DE. €4.99 + 0.25€ Flaschenpfand (Bottle deposit). Reviewed 10/29/18.
650 mL capped bottle marked “Mindestens haltbar bis 22.02.2019” on the back label. Stored in reefer in the maltery store and served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Dark brown, opaque.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.7 cm, controlled center pour), tan, dense with surface rocks, good retention, slooowly diminishing to an irregular four to eight mm ring. Head retraction leaves behind some small pieces of lace.
Lacing – Fair. Partial areas of torn curtain lacing are present.
First pour – Medium brown, hazy.
Aroma – 4.5 – Bitter chocolate, pumpernickel, some burnt malt.
Flavor – 3 – The chocolate from the nose is absent but some of the bread comes through, as well as a bit of toasted malt. It ends slightly dry with some hop bitterness. No alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 - Thin, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3.5 – A slightly above average schwarzbier, mostly because of the nose.

Really dark color with ruby hues and mocha head. Aroma has intensely roasted malts, almost smoky. Tastes like slightly sweet coffee with chocolate notes. Body is quite light but smooth. A well made schwarzbier but nothing special.

Throughly enjoyed this beer.
Pours a dark almost jet black, with about 2 fingers of compact, slightly tan head. Leaves a strong lacing that lastes all the way through.
Smells like milk chocolate, coffee.
Super smooth chocolate taste, kinda reminded me of chocolate milk, and I like that. Easy to drink, good carbination levels, nice levels of malts. Being that I got this in Germany, the price wasnt too bad at all. Got this in a pack with 3 other beers from BraifactuM for around 15€ with pfand. One of the better Schwarzbiers I have had yet.

-pours a clear dark brown with a big creamy, beige head
-medium carbonation visible
-way too light in colour for a Schwarzbier
.nice viscosity
-earthy,black bread,roasty
-Follows the nose plus licquorice, prunes and a slight coffee note
light-medium carbonation,light-medium body
I was sort of lukewarm to this.
Its a solid Schwarzbier, but considering it costs 3-4 times as much as other, better Schwarzbiers is a serious downer

On draft at Brauhaus Schmitz on 1-16-2015.

A deep jet black unfiltered draft with thick tan head that persisted through the session. More flavorful than any other version so far, spicier with more complexity. Hop and malt balance is exceptional.

The colour is dark brown; the liquid is clear. It is way too bright for the style. The two finger head is airy and beige. No lacing occurs.

The smell got some notes of olicloth and plastics. Some roasted flavours.

Roasted flavours in the taste, as well as sweet candy-like notes. Medium bitterness and body. Smooth aftertaste with some lactose and crisp bread.

The carbonation is medium strong, the bubbles mid-sized.

A bit dull, although there is nothing wrong with this one. But it looks and tastes more like a dark Wienna lager than a schwartzbier.

330ml bottle. Oversized glass. Enjoyed on jun´12. Very dark amber color. Beige, small bubbled froth. Lasting close head. Roasted malts, notes of bready crust & hints of cocoa to the nose. Smooth roasted malty upfront over hoppy backbone that provides fruity & gentle bitterness. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Delightful well balanced beer.

33 cl bottle poured into a wine glass. Bottle purchased from the Braufactum homepage.

Very dark color, almost appears black when poured, but more chocolate brown with a reddish hue on closer inspection.

Dense and surprisingly creamy foam rising high in the glass.

Taste, smell and mouthfeel is all classic Schwartzbier, albeit more "rich" than the regular brands you pick up at the supermarket (in Germany).

Very good beer in it's style.

33 cl bottle poured into a goblet. Bottle purchased at Maruhn in Darmstadt.

Pours a black tinted with red with a huge, thick, foamy head. Remarkably clear and clean beer for such a dark color.

The nose is full of malts (coffee, chocolate, amber) as well cloves, banana, and coffee grounds. There is also a faint sour odor reminiscent of sour cherries.

The taste is very light (almost like water in the mouth), and almost resembles an English pale ale. Not at all dark tasting, the mouth is full of sweaty barnyard malts with a vague fruit & ash undertone. Though the beer does finish with a bitter/malty coffee flavor, this finish doesn't last long.

Overall the beer is surprisingly light considering the appearance and makes for a nice session beer. Fairly unimpressive in general, and most certainly not worth the high price tag (€4.50).
