a solid dark lager, rather traditional overall, maybe a touch darker and bigger on the grain side than a lot of these, but nothing unexpected about this one. there is a really nice nutty flavor, toasted and earthy, protein rich, and sturdy as can be to this, which i really really like. the lager yeast isnt super flavorful though, and because of the bigger grain bill, some of the usual crispness and bakery fresh elements are missing. more like something between an amber ale and a dark lager, with some sweetness still in the middle from the grain. also its a little sharp for a second in the feel, front of tongue, not acidic or anything, but maybe tannic there. its washed away quickly though with the bigger body and the bright carbonation. drinks easy, but can also make a nice late night sipper, as it warms up much better than a lot of dark lager types do. the nutty thing is great, almonds, and raisin too, like a liquid trail mix of sorts, really enjoyable from a malt perspective. pleased to have gotten into a few beers from these guys lately, it certainly appears like they are rather competent across a wide range of styles...

Poured a dark ruby-copper brown with a brilliant clarity. Smell and flavors were not intense as the style calls for. Sweet bread and raisin, delicate hops to balance. Creamy and light mouthfeel. A perfect beer for multiple pints.
