An extra pale ale in every sense, this offering has a light yellow, almost greenish tinge with some haze in the pint glass. a small white head dissipates quickly, and little lacing remains on the glass as the level diminishes. nose is primarily pine, with white grapefruit poking around the edges; nose is more subtle than some of this style, and is harder to detect when the glass is half-full. the taste is nicely bitter, and quite balanced in my opinion. i taste some breadiness, but the hops are in charge here. lingering finish, especially given the lighter body and lower alcohol. this ranks as one of the better session ales i've had the pleasure of tasting recently. neither watery nor bland, A Whiter Shade of Pale XPA delivers as a refreshingly crisp pale with west coast bitterness.
