This is an exceptional ESB, very English in overall character profile and in being balanced, restrained, yet full of flavour and character.
It is deep copper with a medium, off-white head, steadily shrinking to a foamy ring with thin wispy top, leaving frequent but weak bits of lace.
The aroma is nice, somewhat subdued, but fairly full-bodied, malty and fruity with clear earthy-leafy hoppiness backed up with a hint of light citrus.
The taste is very nice, stronger, restrained yet very solid, with firm character, depth and range. It has a solid, malty, lightly toasty grain with light caramel, light fruitiness, leafy and lightly earthy-woody with a faint hint of citrus. It has sweetness and bitterness but both are restrained and beautifully balanced. An unusually good American ESB, this is incredibly drinkable, the flavour lasting, never becoming tiresome, and it holds up to food very well. It is clean, fresh, and lively in feel, solid yet light on the tongue.
