From notes in November, 2019.
Something went seriously sideways with this one. I saved a second can to have my brother try it to see if maybe it was just a bad can. They were all terrible. It had a slightly rank smell. And some muddled fruity tones. Taste was even worse. I picked up a hint of peach and citrus, but couldn't bring myself to search deeper. Down the drain.
Such a curiosity. 2 breweries with excellent reputations for hoppy brews. I have never drain poured from either until this day.

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead 11-18-20 for $3.99. Canned on 10-17-19, Best By 1-15-20; consumed on 2-7-20. Cold stored since purchase so should be okay.
Beer poured golden with a nice white head that is leaving lacing behind.
Nose has Belgian fruit esters and some grapefruit and mango.
Taste is Belgian light fruit forward with guava, orange, and grapefruit over a moderate malt base. Finishes with a sweet fruit rind bitterness; 7/10 on my scale.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty refreshing.
Overall i was surprised this was a Belgian IPA...had not had one in ages. It was different from the norm today but a positive norm. I miss Belgian IPAs!

This is my first drain poor from the Cumbre ever. First off don’t care for a Belgian yeast style or fruit and this one just is a mess. When you read that it is a fruit forward beer they mean it. Besides that love all their other bears

I don't know why they don't just admit they used a Belgian yeast strain in this brew. I mean, you can smell it immediately. I don't think anyone with much beer experience could be fooled to think this is a standard American IPA. But for a hybrid style, it is pretty excellent.
L: Pours a transparent, yet slightly foggy yellow, featuring a small layer of very persistent eggshell white head. Bubbles are very fine, leaving gorgeous lacing patterns on the glass.
S: Dank herbal aromas of basil, corriander, clove and tarragon, undertoned by fruit, including underripe banana, pineapple, tangerine and grapefruit. A little intense, and a little heavy on the herbal side, but lovely to my nose.
T: The herbal notes are also strong on the palate, giving a pinch of dankness, before a punch of peppery spice, followed by a deep dive into the bitter territory. It's almost laughable that this has only 50 IBUs. Just goes to show what an inaccurate measure of bitterness that is. It's not for children, lets put it that way.
F: The herbal bitterness is just a tad clingy, but it lets go at a satisfying rate for me, so that your tongue is not bothered for more than 10 seconds or so with the lingering herbal spices. Truly medium bodied; great texture for a sipper that doesn't take too much room in the tummy.
O: Dank, and strange, but a tasty and unique brew for fans of herbal bitterness. I'd pair with a garlic pesto flatbread, or crackers with a swissy cheese and some green onions and avocado.

Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice clean/clear dark golden orange color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some very nice thick/creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, yeasty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango, grapefruit, guava), licorice, nice pineyness. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, yeasty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango, grapefruit, guava), licorice, pretty nice pine note. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, with a pretty nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a tasty brew.

Swing and a miss for me. Maybe the first MEH beer from Cumbre I have had in years. Comes off more like a Belgian style IPAish effort. Weird rotten spice peach coriander thing going on. Yeast? Not for me.
Gets worse over time. Wow.
