Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.
The Kvass Kick returns the the Motherland (and to cans). This offering pours a clear garnet-russet topped by a nice finger of (admittedly somewhat short-lived) dirty cream foam. The nose comprises rye bread, lightly toasted pumpernickel, oregano, maple syrup, light molasses, and light fennel. So far, this is shaping up to be one of the better encounters in the Kick. The taste holds notes of cola, rye crust, flat root beer, cinnamon, fennel, and a very light tinge of garlic bread. So yeah, the taste is a short step backward. Fair enough. The body is a light medium, with a lightly fizzy carbonation and a watery-syrup feel. Overall, this is a step-up from most of the other entrants into the Kvass Kick thus far. The slightly enhanced look and smell make me want to see this one through further than others.
