Having this beer on-tap at the Winespot. Served in a tulip glass, this beer draws a very dark brown, practically black color that’s not interested in letting in any light whatsoever. The white head is about 1/4 of an inch thick when first drawn and served. Head settles to medium size ring lining the inside of the glass at the beer’s surface along with some cluster swirls of surface foam and okay lacing. Aromas of some roasted malts along with piney, earthy, slightly herbal slightly resinous hops. The taste is pretty much exactly the same, with the roasted malts thats followed by the earthy, piney, herbal, and a bit of dank resinous hops That provide just the right amount of bitterness. The hop flavors certainly dominate the flavor profile, but they don’t even come close to totally canceling out the roasted malts here. Well done. Has a somewhat crisp, also somewhat smooth and slightly sticky, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. All of the flavors Linger nicely on my palate for a while in the aftertaste following each sip. The spear is quite a spot on for this style in my opinion. I certainly will drink this again if the opportunity arises.
