When the sun went down and the moon in the dark sea was reflected , the hard toiling dockworkers in 18th century London completed the day with a porter. In harbor pubs and taverns flowed the deep black beer galore. Our tribute to these hard-working guild is a full-bodied porter. Stronger than his ancestor , with a velvety smooth taste and a touch creamy coffee and chocolate, thanks to the carefully selected malts from the historic emmer and rusted spring barley. Perfect for every working day.

Lübeck 16/4 2019. 33 cl bottle from Rewe, Wo-Anders, Lübeck. Very black and text-heavy label where they barely manga to squeeze an old disgruntled half moon in.
Pours opaque dark brown with a light beige head. Settles as patchy, thin layer of foam clinging to the side of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense, rich, sweetish but with a bitter coffee twist. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Black coffee, dark chocolate.
Soft carbonation. Slightly thick, soft, lightly tingly texture.
Flavor has a strong sweetness followed by a moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter-sweet but with an overweight to the sweet side. Lingers for a while.
Pretty nice porter with a solid malt-base and a bit on the sweet side.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells intensely of roasted malt and coffee, with lighter notes of chocolate and tobacco. Taste is an excellent balance of quite roasted, very slightly caramelly malt and coffee, with lighter chocolate and dark fruit, with hints of raisin, as well as accents of tobacco and licorice. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some roasted malt, coffee and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste, Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I think this makes for a very tasty old fashioned Porter with a great balance of strong roasted notes and lighter caramel sweetness and hop bitterness. The strong coffee, chocolate and lighter raisin, tobacco and licorice notes do lend a certain richness to this, although it firmly remains a classic, easy-drinking Porter at heart, with a good body and mouthfeel for the style. Another very impressive "supermarket craft" brew from Riedenburger, especially for a dark style and highly underrated here in my opinion.

Germán beer is great, German craft beer must be Wunderbar. My favorite style picked up at Globus, let’s give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a huge cocoa waft with roasted malts. Pours to a dark opaque brown with a tan head that fades fast. Taste is very balanced roasted malt and slight bitterness. Some molasses and some black licorice. A very easy drinker and a sneaky 6.9%. Not an outstanding porter but rarely is there a bad one.

Pours a pitch black color with a small, noisy dark brown head.
Smells of bakers chocolate and a light note of licorice and roasted malts, tied together by caramel.
Has a soft, slightly creamy mouthfeel, revealing a very well balanced body with a refreshing finish to it.
Tastes of slightly tart milk chocolate, roasted hazelnuts and faint, flowery coffee. Develops a pleasant toffee malt sweetness during mid palate with a light effervescent spark. Finishes with even more nuts, caramel and a good amount of roast.
This is pretty good, a more than solid example of the style, due to its subtle richness within the flavors you would typically expect in a porter.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours black with good carbonation. Nose is smoke, licorice, sweet malts. Taste is sweet and bitter, caramel, syrup, licorice. Overall, pretty tasty, but wouldn't necessarily seek it out. Feel is a bit thin.

From the out of date bottle, it pours a very dark brown with a modest head, soon diminishing to a ring. Roasted notes in the nose. ...and mouth. Not a bad offering!

Starting with roast notes, a honey-like malt body evolves. Perfect to chocolate desserts

Really dark, brown color with mocha head. Aroma has roasted malts, a bit of coffee and caramel. Taste starts slightly sweet and acidic with some fruity notes. It gets more bitter and roasty on the finish, still a bit acidic. Body and carbonation are medium. Overall this is a pretty much standard porter with a hint of Munich style dark malts.

Pitch black. Abundant brown head with pretty decent retention. The aroma is dominated by chocolate aromas, the milky one, and by coffee in the background. The taste presents a slightly acidic note, typical of the style, and a metallic flavour in the aftertaste. This beer leaves the palate very dry, similar to what green tea does. Creamy mouthfeel. Another decent take on a non-german style from this brewery.

33cl bottle, 33cl stein.
4 months before sell-by date.
Pours an amazing brown head (light is low here, but it must be the darkest head I've seen). Fades quickly, no lacing.
Beer dark, opaque.
Smell of yeasts initially, then black tea + tannins, a little spiciness, cocao (no sugar), treacle, concentrated as it goes down the glass.
Lots of carbonation, could have poured it more aggressively. [edit] yes, it does come into it's own with a more agressive pour: nice prickly carbonation -- suspect it would have been even better to pour two bottles into a half-litre glass. [/edit]
As the beer warms up, I get more taste, also a little more alcohol (at cellar temp there was little or no alcohol taste). This beer should be warmer (the second bottle will be better). It's easy enough to drink, with little character, no bite, no complexity.
Taste (second warmer bottle) largely follows smell: black tea/tannins; sweetness; some balancing bitterness, especially in the finish.
Not a bad beer. But not a great one either...
