Autumn Rush is the second release of our Barrel Aged Project Series. This Imperial Breakfast Stout features an infusion of hazelnut and locally roasted coffee. We took three different Tioga-Sequoia specialties and aged them in a blend of High West and Heaven Hill whiskey barrels. Look for bold flavors of fresh roasted coffee, hazelnut and dark chocolate, with delicate flavors of oak, bourbon whiskey, and dark fruit as it warms. Enjoy now of cellar for later.

2015 Bottle
A: Hazelnuts, moderate chocolate/coffee like malts, slightly sweet, with moderately light bourbon and light coffee notes.
A: Black color, with a fine tan head that quickly recedes into the glass.
T: Moderately light bourbon, followed by hazelnuts, chocolate/coffee malt roast, lightly sweet, with a touch of coffee and faint roast bitterness on the finish.
M: Full bodied, moderately light carbonation and smooth mouth-feel.
O: Awesome; the beer has a great nutella flavor with a mid of bourbon. The aging really helped enhance the components of this beer. Very tasty.

Type: 500-ml bottle (16.9 oz.)
Glass: Clear 9-oz. plastic cup
From: Liquor King in Fresno, Calif.
Price: $14.99
Purchased: March 31, 2016
Consumed: April 2, 2016
Misc.: Bottled in Dec. 2015; Yellow waxed neck
Picked this up on a whim and a recommendation from Nick. Then had the regular breakfast stout Rush Hour and thought it was fantastic. Really looking forward to this one. Was going to bring it home, but ran out of beer on my final night in Fresno. Priorities, you know? After taking roughly eight minutes trying to get the yellow wax off, I was ready.
Poured a pitch black color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki tan, frothy head, looking very nice on the top. Good amount of even layered foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Good looking circular foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled a nice mix of bourbon, hazelnut, roasted nuts, caramel, toffee, roasted coffee, pecan, maple walnut and some oaky wood. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste follows the nose almost perfectly. Getting smooth bourbon whiskey, hazelnut, caramel, buttered popcorn, caramel popcorn, pecan, maple walnut, brown sugar, French press coffee, espresso and vanilla. This would have done well with much more aging. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Very interesting beer. Hazelnut Imperial Breakfast Stout pretty much nails it. Very good. (Overall - 4.25)

Wonderful blend of Coffee and Hazelnuts, bourbon adds nice depth with vanilla, oak, and booze. Definitely on the sweeter side of BBA beers, which isn't a bad thing. If you like hazelnut forward dessert stouts its a big win. I enjoyed it and will be grabbing one for the cellar.
