This old school style features the banana and clove character and toasted bread notes found in classic Bavarian wheat beers, but as it also calls for the substitution of rye for wheat, the Roggenbier adopts extra spiciness & body— perfect for those sweater-wearing winter nights.

Fantastic brown to dark copper color with a fingernail of beige around part of the rim. The aroma is earthy rye and banana esters. The taste is a very nice blend of earthy rye and the banana esters, just as advertised in the nose. The body is fairly light, smooth, and quaffable.

Look is dark amber, hazy, with bright edges. Head did not last, and no lacing. Smell is Orange peels, pepper, and light clove. Taste is spicy, generic citrus And Feels lightly tangy and sweet. Effervescent, but No hop bitterness and no banana that others mentioned. Seems very true to this unique style. Had a little out of season, but didn't see any born on or best by dates. I actually like it as a summer beer change of pace. not thick and average abv, along with the zesty, spicy, citrus, I'd take one or two by the pool.

500 mL bottled 11/11/16
L - Nice amber color with minimal head
S - Typical hefeweizen smell
T- Taste like the brewer's description. Substitute rye for wheat and you have it
MF - Full and rich. Coats the tongue.
O - Hefeweizen is not a style I look for. Tried this from the winter warmer mix pack and the first one shocked me. After reading the label, pouring the 2nd bottle into an appropriate glass, and enjoying it for what it is, I like it. Urban Chestnut does traditional beer in a fantastic way. If you are a fan of rye and traditional German wheat beer, this is one to look for.

Pours an effervescent orange/amber with 3 fingers of cream colored head. No head retnetion or lacing

S: Bubble gum, cloves

T: Follows the nose, some peppery rye with slight pear skin notes up front. Clove & bubblegum dominates this warms, along with a little peppery breadyness & white grape & some dryness. Finishes a little peppery/spicy with green banana peel & clove

MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation

Drinks easy enough, wish this had a little more & little less yeast characteristics

Poured out a dark, amber color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled quite smokey with toasted caramel and coffee. It tasted smokey with a roasted malt flavor.
