Tried on tap at UCBC 5 Jul 2011.
Large light brown head lingers. Lightly carbonated. Clear mahogany in color. Aroma of smoke, applewood smoked bacon, slightly sweet. Somewhat less smoke in the taste. Nutty and sweet. Touch of astringency in middle and finish. Light body, moderate alcohol.
Was hoping for a bit more smoke in the taste.

A - pours a nice black color without much of a head
S - smells like a rauchbier should, nice ham/bacon smoked malts with a touch of roast
T - follows the nose to a t. Nice bacon and ham flavors baked into a smokey burnt malt character. Good stuff.
M - decent body on it that goes down smoothly.
D - I like the drinkability on this beer given how it stacks up to other smoked beers I have had. Usually I get really burnt out on the flavors but as this warmed the meaty flavors started to give way to a more roasted character (as opposed to the smoke). Urban Chestnut was 2 for 2 on the night for me.

Pours a clear, dark amber color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, smoke, and slight earthy malt. Fits the style of a Rauchbier. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of good smoke, slight sweet malt, hint of roasted malt, and hint of pale malt. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend. The smoke is not over-powering, but instead a subtle addition that blends and is enhanced by other ingredients.
