Christmas gift. Standard barrel aged stout appearance. Strong scents of bourbon barrel, slight roasted malt notes. Taste is again bourbon forward with slight roasted malt. Medium bodied, subtle booziness. Nothing extraordinary, but not that bad.

Bottled 12/30/21; drank 11/21/22 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
An even pour yielded a small tan head; nice lace.
Dark chocolate, black licorice, mild marshmallow & mild booze heat notes in the nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Bourbon & dark chocolate flavors; fresh dirt notes on the finish.
Really thin, and the base beer is pretty overwhelmed by the barrel. Not great.

I had this on-tap at Urban Chestnut during a recent trip to St. Louis.
Served in a snifter.
A: Poured as black as night, with an off-white head that boasted about 1/3 finger thick.
S: Lots of coconuty bourbon, vanilla, and with some dark malt poking through. This was very bourbon forward.
T: Yep, bourbon upfront (which I felt was a bit much), dark chocolate, and sweet, dark malt. I would describe this as "Almond Joy" in a glass.
M: Infinitely creamy, with a nice low carbonation bill, and some mild, splotchy lacing. Even though I though this was heavy-handed on the bourbon front, it did wonders cutting down what could have been some over-the-top sweetness.
O: I like this one a lot, but didn't fall in love with it. I'd really like to try to regular Thrale's sometime. I'd venture to guess it's much sweeter.

Pours black in color without much head. Nose is a lot of vanilla with hints of bourbon and chcocolates. Taste is similar - sweet cola flavors up front fade to vanilla. A little bourbon flavor comes through on the end. Not the most complex BARIS, but pretty good. Medium to thin body. This is a decent barrel aged - more muted than expected, but still worth a shot.
