This “export” style lager, brewed for our annual Oktoberfest celebration, is malty yet well balanced like the bier traditionally served at Oktoberfest in Munich. However, our Festbier has a tale/tail of its own–Oachkatzlschwoaf (pronounced “o-cat-zel-schwof”) translated is “tail of a squirrel”…just a little Bavarian humor.

Clear, amber color. Big, white head. Malt, dried fruits, and some caramel in the aroma. Malty taste with just enough of earthy hops. Classy and tasty.

Pint from draft at a BBQ spot in St Charles Missouri near the airport. Quite disappointing as I expected top notch from this brewery with a reputation for quality lagers. Too thin, sweet malt flavor is weak, but at least it’s fairly drinkable. It also looks like a Marzen but Festbier is often clear and not as sweet. Odd beer. Bummer.

16oz can pours a light orangey amber color with a short but dense head of tan-colored foam that gradually retreats to a thick ring. Smells of toasty malts and a bit of noble hop. Nice balance of caramel, toasty bread, honey, and toffee with a herbal-grassy note from the hops. Medium body, mild sweetness, sudsy carbonation mouthfeel, restrained bitterness, and a slightly sweet bready aftertaste.

I've always considered this to be an incredibly solid Märzen and feel very lucky to be in the same city as this brewery. Probably not the absolute finest you could ever find in the style, but markedly above average and very consistently delicious. Honestly surprised that I hadn't rated it yet.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours orange red with a fluffy white head. Smells of caramelized grain with some fruit. Tastes of bright fruit, caramelized grain, and slight bread. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

O-Katz doesn’t speak to me in sultry ways. Nor does it delight my mind like a beautiful dream. But that’s ok, because it’s not supposed to. It’s not prom queen, it’s not John Daly in his prime, and it’s not the belle of the ball. That being said, O-Katz is still there. It shows up in rain, sleet , and snow (but not when it’s sick, because you need to stay home when you’re sick. “Toughing” it out isn’t cool. You just get other people sick.)

Don’t forget to water your lawn, my minions (unless you’re in Las Vegas of course).

Canned 8/1/23; drank 8/24/23 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque dull orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice off-white head; frothy lacing remained.

Toasted wheat bread, mild caramel & autumn leaf notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Autumn leaves & mild caramel flavors up front; mild brown sugar & faint hop bite notes on the finish.

A real nice Oktoberfest beer!

Dark honey colored body; clear; dense, lively carbonation; thick, white, and creamy textured head. Malty nose; mild notes of caramel and toffee. Light brown sugar flavor with a rich, toasted grain overtone; mild to moderate hop bitterness. Medium body; mild residual sugar mouthfeel; semi-dry at the finish.

All in all, a nice Oktoberfest beer that emphasizes malt toastiness above being overly-sweet. Balanced and easy drinking.

Somewhat hazy and copper and n color with a decent head, nice look here. Sweet malty nose on this is nice. Flavor is decent if not a bit light. Semi sweet start and a malty finish but almost a crisp finish. Did I mention good flavor. This has some body, decent brew here.
