12 fl oz bottle from 2020 release, aged in the cabinet. Beer pours a deep tootsie roll brown color with minimal dark brown head. Aroma dominated by dark molasses and malt notes. Taste is malt-heavy up front, with a syrupy mouthfeel and noticeable alcohol heat. Flavor moves into hop bitterness at the end that develops into a rather unpleasant bite/aftertaste.
I had half of the 4-pack in late 2020, and the beer has certainly changed in that time. In 2020, the alcohol flavor was much more prominent and gave an overpowering heat and very unpleasant sour bite to the beer, largely overwhelming the more mellow malt flavors. This was quickly followed by a violent kick of bitterness from the hops that left me very disappointed and considering pouring the rest of the beer out.
I would say the aging has made a marked improvement on this beer, making it much more palatable with a much greater depth of flavor and an overall better drinking experience.

Drank out of a beer goblet at the brewery. Practically pitch black appearance. Not much of a smell, but what's there smells a bit sweet and toasty. Fair amount of beige foam after pour. Notes of roasted barley, dark fruit, and dark chocolate. Not much carbonation in my experience, but overall a silky mouthfeel with a tinge of bitterness from the barley. I'd highly recommend checking out the brewery if you can, as they have several other tasty beers outside of what they can and sell.

Black in color with no light penetration. There’s a hint of beige around the rim. The aroma is faint, but there’s some dark roasted barley. I definitely taste some dark roasted barley and suggestion of Malik chocolate and a light smoke note. The mouth is thick and a touch boozy.

Pours slowly, immediately giving the impression of thickness. Head formation is near null. What head is there is a couple fingernails widths of caramel colored fizzy, foam. Swirling the glass hard a few times nets a half finger of caramel colored foam that is dense, with various bubble sizes. Retention at this point is fair to good. Aroma is roasty, toasty, nutty, caramely malts even from a foot away from the glass. Nuts, char, burnt sugar and molasses become more apparent as the nose dips into the glass. Soy sauce becomes more apparent on the nose as the glass warms. Flavor profile is molasses, toffee, caramel, char, then a little spike of heat before a sweet and soothing finish. Roasty, toasty, caramely malts add depth and smoothness. Dynamics are smooth and playful, while striking balance when considering the entire flavor profile. Mouth feel is medium-thin with a consistency like soy sauce. That is to say, thin and uneventful. Overall, focus is lacking here, with each category providing a myriad of notes, with no focal point.

Poured a jet-black color with a very small, light brown head. It smelled of roasted malt, vanilla, dark chocolate and molasses. It was sweet and malty with strong roasted noted.
