Enjoying a full pour of this on tap at the source... this is a collaboration beer with Monument, a restaurant and bar located in Charlestown, MA.
Pours a typical hazy NE style IPA with a golden orange body and a thin yet retentive head. Alright legs and superior lace. It is kind of a tried-and-true story at this point, but I enjoy it, especially if it’s done well. This is a nice one.
The nose is full of lime zest and strong grapefruit peel character, absolutely brimming with notes of citric intensity. There are some slight backing aspects of tropical fruit as well, but I’m just assuming this has a ton of Motueka or a similar hop. It’s just so fresh smelling and intense. A bit of passion fruit and dank guava recalling some Galaxy-hopped beers I’ve had.
Flavor is very crisp yet strongly hoppy with waves upon waves of intense citrusy goodness followed up by some lighter notes of pine, passion fruit and guava once again. This beer is quite focused for an NEIPA, I must say. It has its focus and seems to be dedicated to it 100%. In comparison to a lot of other NEIPAs I’ve had that kind of throw their weight all over the place, this one seems like quite a refreshing brew.
The feel is thick and chewy but still light bodied enough and enjoyable with a moderated carbonation. It’s a little lighter bodied than some of their other NEIPAs like Four Seam, but it’s still got that chalky, yeasty and doughy complexion that you either love or hate when it comes to this sort of beer. I think this is somewhat like a more approachable version of Four Seam in some ways; that will depend heavily on how you feel about lime and other lighter citrus flavors, though, as this really highlights those aspects.
