Pours dark red brown near black with a dense creamy off-white light khaki colored foam head. Smells like toasted malts, caramel, toffee, dried fruit, a hint of cocoa, coffee roast, and mild earthy grassy hops. Tastes dark and almost porter-esque with big rich dark toasted malts, lightly smoky coffee roast, chocolate, dark toasted bready malts, melanoidin bread crust, some dried fruit, hints of apricot, raisin, fig, slight orange citrus, some caramel, toffee, molasses, with mild earthy grassy hops. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy with moderate smooth carbonation. Overall a nice dark brown ale.

Not too long ago American brown ales had a lackluster character.
