12oz bottle
Served in a pilsner glass
A - This beer pours a nice golden color. It is topped with an inch of white head. The head is slowly fed by a sparse flow of carbonation from the nucleation sites.
S - The first thing I notice is a floral aroma. Upon further investigation I get some caramel malt as well.
T - It starts out with a dose of sweet caramel malt, but it has a slight bitter finish to counteract the sweetness.
M - Moderate
O - This is a well balanced beer. It is a little bland, but then again, it's a pale lager. It's worth a try if you are into Bohemian lagers.

A - Pours with one finger of white foam on top of a clear, golden body. The head settles rapidly and leaves little lace on the glass.
S - Bready malt with a grainy note and little else.
T - Sweet, corny grain up front with a little bready malt in the middle and a finish of lightly herbal hops, and husky grain.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a somewhat sweet finish.
D - Not terrible, but not particularly good either. Bland and inoffensive, it would be easy to put down a few of these but I dont know why you would want to.

Wooden Shoe Lager
A light clear straw yellow in color. Aroma is full of pale malts and a small floral hop. Taste is standard, malty, very euro style pale lager flavor. Mild citrus in the finish, a tad buttery. Light to medium bodied feel. Screams mediocrity, but hey, its not bad.

Wooden Shoe Lager pours a medium yellow color with half an inch of white head that falls to a thin cap and laces some.
The smell is fairly neutral, but with a note of freshly mowed grass.
The taste is a bit sweet. None of the grassiness comes in the taste. The only tinge of hop comes at the end of the taste.
The mouthfeel is light to medium as I would expect with the style.
Overall this is not a bad beer. Certainly more flavor than the big three, but nothing earth-shattering. Worth trying.

A: Slightly hazy and pear in color. the head is white and is a good two fingers.
S: Light floral hops, and a nice toasty cracker smell.
T: Lightly Malty at first, with some good toasty flavors. There is nice bit of hops in the finish, slightly floral.
M: Light in body, and the carbonation seems a little low, though it becomes more prevalent in the finish.
O: Overall very nice, There are some good flavors there, and it isn't your typical bland lager. The finish is nice and clean. A beer that would be great for a summer day.

Single 12oz bottle (no date I could find) poured into a shaker pint glass. Bottle says brewed in Columbus by Elevator Brewing company....but the bottle label is the same as that here on the website. So is this beer out of date?
Appearance: Gold-orange color beer with a very thin white head - some ring of foam around the edge. Beer has a chill haze to it that mostly goes away as it warms up leaving just a slight haze. Occasional strands of lacing, but not very much.
Smell: Hints of apple, along with some mild skunky hops and a mild burnt malt smell. There is another hop in there, but I can't quite place it.
Taste: Fairly crisp up front, moving quickly into that herbal/earthy hop flavor, and then comes a burnt flavor - slightly smoky. This burnt flavor morphs a bit once the beer is nearly room temp, going back to that earthy/herbal hop flavor bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Mild carbonation/spiciness on the tongue, otherwise a bit thick and slick at the same time.
Drinkability: Not very drinkable - was a bit difficult to finish mostly because of the finish of the beer. The burnt taste at the end is a bit odd and I wonder if the beer was past due/freshness. Oh well.

12 oz bottle. No freshness date. This is the first American Pale Lager I've reviewed.
Pours a nice gold color with a white head that pretty much only dots the glass sides in the end. A lot of very fine sediment suspended throughout. Smells very crisp, sort of earthy, and biscuity. Taste has some of that leafy yeast going on, along with some unripe orange hop balance. Nice body, almost chewy with a sweet and sour aftertaste. Very "juice-like." A decent, unique beer.

12oz bottle, no dating. Brewed by Elevator in Columbus.
Pours a darker golden color with a fizzy white head and soapy lacing which hangs around for the duration of the drink.
Smell is slightly off-putting; the malt comes off a bit musty and plastic-like.
That same plastic-like note is in the flavor as well. Grassy, vegetal notes come through along with some sweetness from the malt, but the plasticity is tough to overcome.
Nice body, particularly for the style, so no complaints there.
Quite simply, the recipe needs to be tweaked. Hopefully it's just a bad batch, because all the other elements are there for a solid pale lager.

I'm not sure why this is classified as being brewed by Heritage Brewing Co.; the bottle in my hand and pictured on this page clearly states it is "brewed and bottled by Elevator Brewing Co., Columbus, Ohio".
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Pours a hazy straw yellow with a 1" head that reduces to a 1/8" head that remains. Decent carbonation continues to bubble up minutes after pouring. Nice lacing down the sides.
Smell is slightly malty and sweet, but otherwise unremarkable.
Taste is slightly off; somewhat tangy and metallic, the malt presence is grainy, like wet straw. Hops are almost non-existent, with nothing more than a whisper toward the end of the sip. The sweetness in this beer tastes like it was added after brewing was complete.
Mouthfeel is medium, with a metallic tang on the tongue that is slightly disconcerting.
Bought this as a single, and I am glad; I do not foresee buying another one of these.

My bottle says this is brewed and bottled by Elevator Brewing in Columbus, OH. Appears a slightly hazed bright golden color with some fizzy white head coats the glass in a speckled formation. Aroma sharp carbonation hints of green apple, a touch of herbal hops bready yeast. A touch of solvent citrus cleanerFlavors got a bit of sulfur, with sweet sticky residual sugars not clean or crisp a bit of a mess in fact. This is terrible pretty much undrinkable I won't be buying any Wooden Shoe, you might as well go to Holland and drink the cheapest beer around out of a wooden shoe. Mouthfeel is cloying from the first to last sip, carbonation is unnaturally sharp, probably force carbonated. Drinkability is poor, I couldn't imagine drinking this ever again.

Poured into a pint glass on 7/29/10
Burnt golden color with a faded hue when held to the light. Countless small particles drift slowly throughout; almost appear to be suspended. 1/4th inch head dropped to a thinnish skim quickly. Hardly any lace.
Solid toasted malt aroma imparting the smell of baked bread. Yeasty undertones. Floral hops & a very light spice note. Grassy tones, as well. Not bad, but restrained.
The hop profile is ramped up to taste, but not too much. A mild swipe of [what I suppose passes for] bitterness is followed by floral notes & an earthy bent. Tastes grassy, too. As with the nose, the malts are sturdy & very toasty, indeed.
Somewhere close to medium body for the style; this is a robust tasting beer. This is accentuated by the lower carbonation. Finishes clean; just a few trace floral & toasted residuals linger.
Wooden Shoe Lager is a solid offering from Elevator. I find it to have better composition & integration of flavors & aromas than, say, their Dark Horse Lager. Between the two, this is the one I'd be more inclined to drink again.

Although I refuse to spend one more red cent of my money in the Elevator Brewery & Restaurant for the rest of my life; I have absolutely no problem buying bottled versions of their beers. Mainly because the snobby-trendy bar and wait staff have nothing to do with producing and bottling their beers, a process that takes place several blocks away at the company's brewery on 4th Street.
This one pours a honey-gold color with a nice head that lasts for the duration.
The smell is of hoppy malted cereal with slight grassy (one might even say non-offensively musty) overtones.
The taste is superbly balanced with the smell - malted biscuits with good hop notes in the middle and sort of dry at the end.
I find most Elevator beers to be way too dry and lacking in flavor. Too bad Wooden Shoe is an "old school" brew and not an original recipe created by Elevator, as this is probably one of the best I've ever tasted from that company (which in and of itself should tell you something about their original beers).
A perfect session beer. One that I really enjoyed. I will continue to purchase this as long as it is available.

OK.... I was suspicious of a bomber of Wooden Shoe (considering that it is contract brewed by a VERY respectable brewery; Barrel House in Cincinnati, OH) that didn't quite taste GREAT...
So, I decided to go right up to Minster, OH and have a 1/2 liter mug right at The Wooden Shoe Inn! It was served to me in a ceramic mug with a frothy 1" off white head.
The smell was of a nice malt.
The taste was quite good. Very little of the tart lemony flavor that I got with the bomber. Instead, the beer had a nice toasted malt flavor. There was a bit of citrus tang but not overwhelming.
The mouthfeel was appropriate carbonation and a smooth lager finish. Very refreshing.
Drinkability: I had two 1/2 liters and my wife had one.... with dinner. This beer has been redeemed in my mind.... I will have to give a bomber another try.

Straw to light golen in color. Tight lingering head with moderate lacing. Carbonation a tad on the low side for the style, although this may be due to my somewhat aggressive pour. Definitely malt dominant, but just enough hop flavor comes through in the end to balance it. More reminiscent of the full round flavor of a Munich Helles than a German Pils. Fuller body & mouthfeel than your standard macro lager, but not overly thick. Not sure how it would hold up to a day full of college football, but I would be willing to try.
This is a damn tasty brew. It's nice to see an American made full flavored lager for a change.

22 ox bottle pours a chill hazed golden body with a two finger white head. Retention is good and there is plenty of patchy lacing. Aroma has bready malt, spicy hops, and a sour lactic note. Medium body and carbonation. Taste is sweet bready malt, spicy hops, and the odd sour lactic note that is somewhere between lemons and cottage cheese. Enjoyable, but not without some flaws.
