this was another one of our collective favorite craft beers from our trip to costa rica. its easily the best beer we had from these guys too, hard to believe this is so dialed in a bold considering most of the rest of their beers were so mellow, to style, and tame. this is great saison, light and delicate as a base beer but really jazzed up with the addition of black pepper and hibiscus. its a cool combination, uncommon, and well balanced considering the weirdness of it. the hibiscus doesnt color the beer pink at all, it looks pretty much like a regular saison, pale, hazy, and bubbly, quite light though. the flowers are bright in the nose and taste for sure, and the pepper is strong and spicy, the two go together really well in this, and seem to ride the fluffy wheaty body as far as they can take it. i like the freshness of this but also the earthy intensity of the pepper, sort of fills in some complexity for a very mild yeast strain for the style. really dry beer and super well carbonated, a change of pace from their others i have had. on tap at volcano brewing right on tamarindo beach, hard to imagine a finer setting to enjoy this delicious summery saison. by far the best of the beers we had from these guys! unique mix of strange ingredients in a high quality base beer, very costa rica, delicious!
