Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Korintje Cinnamon and Ugandan Vanilla
Throws is our Mardi Gras King Cake-inspired stout. It was aged in a sweeping blend of bourbon barrels: Elijah Craig, Wild Turkey, and Jim Beam Double Oak. After two years of rumination enclosed in spirit-coated oak, Throws was dosed with Korintje Cinnamon and Ugandan Vanilla. The decadent, elusive profiles of various bourbons meet these pastry hints like the rich center of a cinnamon roll. This beer is set to be one of the most prized throws this Carnival season. Catch it if you can!
Style: Imperial Stout / Stout
Flavor Profile: decadent / rich / sweet
Hops: Magnum
Aging Method: Elijah Craig / Jim Beam Double Oak / Wild Turkey
Other Ingredients: Korintje cinnamon / Ugandan vanilla

Viscous, near opaque pour, dark brown; appears black in the glass; frothy, fairly long-lasting head, khaki hued. Dark, roasted grain scent with notes of cinnamon; coconut. All around good taste; chocolate cookies and bourbon; cinnamon; nice overall sweetness. Heavy mouthfeel; slick and viscous; bold whiskey heat.
Generally, this beer delivers some nice bourbon barrel aged imperial stout qualities. It is thick and rich, the base beer supporting a strong bourbon note from the barrel aging. On par with other well-crafted beers of similar pedigree? Um, close. Still, this is one to check out if you have the opportunity.

Appearance: Served up a very (very) dark brown body. No appreciable head formation.
Smell: Heady dark maltiness with scents of cinnamon-spiced brown sugar, molasses, sugar-encrusted barrels.
Taste: Sweet sugary maltiness. Moderate barrel character. Ultimately a sustained spiciness. Dark malts, a blended ooze of caramel, molasses and brown sugar. Flash of macerated fruits. Cinnamon a-plenty.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Low carbonation. Sticky, somewhat ponderous mouthfeel.
Overall: Oof. A little sweeter than desired and given the rather low carbonation, makes for a taxingly slow sipper.
