the addition of some citrus to an already outstanding puckery saison is a nice treat! golden and clear in the glass with almost a full inch of white head. aroma of clean bacterial fermentation, lactic and lemony, not overly sour, but past tart to me, with fresh cut grapefruit and orange in here too, the fruit aspect strong enough to be out in front of the botanical and hop complexion that was so striking in the original, but its there still, mostly later on. the flavor is great, i am amazed just how clean this is. for one, the grain is super light, dry and minimal, not as earthy round and influencing as it more commonly is in the style. second, there doesnt seem to be much of a saison yeast strain to this at all, instead its just the lightly citrusy bacterial element, which is delicate and clean, invisible after the swallow, and really good. not so sour that it is a distraction, but also not as nuanced as the mixed fermentation saisons that have more of both sides at work. this is crazy light overall too, minimal body, refreshingly high carbonation, and just a really easy drinking beer that remains fairly unique. the citrus isnt too much, doesnt over bitter this, and gives it a punchy juicy freshness that is delicious. so glad to see some commons beers surfacing around denver, everything they do is so high quality, they are a great addition to this market, and while i think i prefer the original myrtle to this citrus edition, but this was still awesome.
