I had the port barrel aged version years ago and it was phenomenal. When I had this one, I honestly thought it was the port barrel aged one since there was so much fruit on a palate. It was lacking all the richness I was expecting. It had a very bright fruit flavor which makes me think it is infected. Bummer.

375 mL bottle. Inky black with a deep mocha head. Smells of oak, bourbon, a little soy sauce. Tastes of strong alcohol. Bourbon, oak, booze, deep bitter chocolate malts, spicy oak. Heavy, very alcoholic. It's good but yikes is it boozy.

375ml bottle served in a big snifter. I don't see a date on it.
Pours black, tar-like, with no head, and little carbonation. Smell is bourbon, vanilla, booze, chocolate, char.
Taste is along the same lines as the aroma, but weighted differently. More char, less vanilla. Coffee. Maybe more (and darker) chocolate.
Mouthfeel is thick, a little gritty. Overall, nice beer.

This one is rich and thick to the likes of which are hardly witnessed - oh - my!
Sparse caramel head quickly fades to a lingering lace at the snifter edge.
This sticks longingly and forever to the surface of the glass when stirred.
Soy sauce and boot strap molasses on the nose. Nice bitter backbone and a strong soy sauce with sweetness.
This delicious brew is this far IMO far underrated.
Only complaint is that you don't want to drink it to slowly as the little carbonation dissipates to half more quickly than I can sip through the bottle.

Poured from fridge temp into a snifter. Pours thick and viscous - super black. Laces the glass like no other. Dark brown head that quickly dissipates. It's almost a reddish brown. Nose is insane. Bourbon, black licorice, coffee grounds, dark chocolate and dark fruit. Taste is vibrant - super thick black licorice, bourbon, toffee, vanilla, bitter chocolate, roasty/smoke notes, and a touch of alcohol heat. Mouthfeel is super thick and creamy. Overall, one of the best bourbon barrel-aged stouts that I have tried. This is extreme, so be ready.
