Curious these low ratings. Mongozo's Buckwheat does many things well that a good witbier should: refreshing and pleasant as a table ale. Recommended.

While a decent foam in the pour, Buckwheat's Looks fade fast and end up only slightly better than the average wit. Smells are fainter than the style, but the citrus and fruit medley is in there. The yeast brings out an interesting malt bill and is balanced. Finishes mildly spicy, with an interesting low-key white-pepper from either the yeast or a spicier malt like rye or, I presume, buckwheat. Refreshing and medium-mouthed in a soft style. Yeasty enough and gentle enough to help me get through an average dinner of leftovers.

I give good Overall Hugs to Mongozo. This is only my second brew from them, but they seem good at whatever the gluten free brewing process is. And they do the other Good Guy stuff micros do. Proost !

Copenhagen 25/1 2019. 33 cl bottle from Føtex. White version of the Mongozo brands design. With the birdy logo.

Pours hazy, pale yellow with small white head. Settles as thin patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate Lacing.

Aroma is sourish fruitiness. Artificial sweetener with citric sourness. The Buckwheat is not particularly strong. Light rough bitterness.

Light carbonation. Thin, watery texture.

Flavor is lightly sweet followed by slightly stronger citric, herbal bitterness. Aftertaste is short and watery.

The good news is that the Buckwheat is pretty subdued. The bad news is so is more or less everything else.

330 ml bottle, from Helgø Meny Maxi, Sandnes. ABV in Norway is 4.7%. Nearly clear and very pale straw colour, small white head. Aroma of wheat / buckwheat, witbier yeast, coriander and other spices, hints of citrus peel. Light bodied. The flavour is yeasty, wheaty and citrussy, notes of mild spices.

surprised to see such poor ratings on this, a tasty and earthy take on witbier, gluten free too, although you couldnt tell that smelling and sipping on it, not sure what others have not seen in it, but i liked it quite well. maybe just a little more flush with color than many of these on the pour, but it looks the part, airy white had on top of a wheat colored base with a little haze, simple and light looking to me, a bit more sediment in the bottom inch of the bottle. it smells lightly spicy almost like some rye could be in the mix, could just be from the yeast though, which is peppery in its own right, brings a hint of citrus and maybe just a little soapiness, but its appealing to me, slightly sweet underneath it. the flavor is solid, the grain has some nuance to it, some protein it seems too, and yet its still fairly light to drink. subtle orange to this, some herbal almost tea-like character as well, and an almost terroir property to the grain, rather dynamic to me overall. highly estery with pear and green grape aspects to the ferment, but it fits the style. decent carbonation that sags slightly as this warms up, but overall i liked this. solid as a wit, better than that when considered among other gluten free beers. much better than its ratings here on BA so far...

Not gluten free by science, tastes like lemon bleach. If you are going to brew the laziest kind of gluten-reduced one would hope to get a good result, but sadly it's bad.

Looked slightly promising, but little head and awful, weird taste. Have had GF by ingredient wits that tasted pretty much like a blue moon with awesome body and full flavour. This is a poor effort.

Orange yellow color, hazy, almost no foam.
In the smell a light spiciness, coriander, then pink pepper. And a strnage, peculiar note (the buckwheat?).
Spicy taste too, again more coriander, and a light citric note.
Easily drinkable, but.

Pale yellow color with white head that goes away completely in a few seconds. Aroma is pretty intense. You get some spices, clove and lemon peel come to mind. Taste is somehow bland. You only get the spices, not much of a beer character. It says on the label: organic, gluten free, fairtrade. It contains malt, rice and buckwheat. Body is light, making it more similar to a soda, and that's my overall impression: witbier flavored soda.
