The picture I took at the beer festival says 5.1%. Untappd says 4.7%. Anyways the event was Backwash 2017.
Pours a moderately hazy but bright colored yellow. 1/3" white head. Aroma was all about that tropical mixed drink vibe, where my umbrella yo? Pineapple, rum, something you stick in or something according to the song. Coconut. But there is also Mosaic and Citra hops pushing the usual sweet citrus and additional tropical fruit notes as well.
Taste, eh, I'm not a rum guy, but thankfully there is enough other things going on here to make that just a minor thing. They go light enough on the fruit that I don't hate this beer like I do a lot of fruit ipas. Good semblance without dominance from areas I'm not a fan of. Body is light, the fruit additions do take away from the bitterness, so if your friend doesn't like ipas because they're too bitter, that friend might be into this more than I was. For me, I'd be down with trying a no rum version of this.
