neat to see some almanac stuff lately that is neither hoppy or sour, i enjoyed the citrus kolsch a couple weeks ago and now this one, a classically styled dark lager that is executed to a real high degree, this shows a tremendous amount of competence in an area where we really havent seen it from alamanc before, i was stoked on this beer from first sip to last drop, awesome beer, awesome can art, glad this came to idaho! nice frothy head on this, light brown toned and airy, the base beer is dark like cola or root beer, not real viscous or anything, plenty bubbly, doesnt appear as deep as a porter or stout. the aroma is european lager yeast, lots of roast, dark chocolate, a nutty middle, very little sweetness, and heaps of minerals to finish. layered and interesting, well refined, and honestly somewhat subtle. the flavor is chocolate forward but tis a dry cocoa type to me, some low end bitterness but not harsh or burnt on the roast, maybe new school espresso there, super compatible with the yeast that is pretty much there the whole way through this. light maple, english toffee, and raisin in the mix as well. dry by the finish, maybe lightly german on the malt side. overall really impressive beer, light and lively to drink on for its color, infinitely satisfying. these guys really can do it all, and its great to get a chance to drink things from them in styles i have not seen out of them before! this was wonderful.
