Poured from a tap into a pint glass at Breakwater Brewery in Oceanside, Calif., on Aug. 8, 2012 for $3.00 (Happy Hour). Finger of head when I got it, with khaki, frothy lacing. Beer was a deep caramel brown color. Unpleasant super foamy retention.

Smelled nutty, toffee, rye hops. Also a light floral aroma.

Tasted a bit similar to the nose, only not as much rye. Got nutty, wet watery hops with a wet watery finish. Pretty bland overall.

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt bitter finish.

Pretty much the definition of an average beer. Would never try it again on purpose.

Notes from 09/21/11
*On tap at the brewery
(Note to self: $3.50 house pints on Tuesdays!)

A: My pint arrived a clear brass-orange hue with a one finger soapy white head and some nice curtains of lace.

S: Sweet fruity and floral nose. Sweet peaches and orange zest aromas coming through. Rather pleasant.

T: Taste I would say is medium bitter with a piney orange hop presence and light bready rye spice to it. Hops are a bit resinous and linger which I like. A touch caramel flav. All in all a decently hopped IPA.

M: MF is very light in body and a bit watery thin but with a nice resiny slick coat to the tongue. Slight crisp dry finsh.

D: A nicely hopped IPA with a touch of Rye. Adds that bit of spice to the flavs, drying things out a bit on the finish.

Would def order again and have to make a point to frequent this place more often. Especially on Tuesdays!

Two pints on tap at Backstreet Vista. I like this place.

A: Hazed yellow gold with a generous white head. Scattered lacing. Nice color.

S: Orange, grapefruit, and lemon (faint) flesh. I get a dash of stone fruit. Hops are vibrant and aromatic, though the aroma is mellow on the whole. Not much malt to speak of, which is positive.

T: Orange flesh, grapefruit flesh, and light rind and pith notes. Lots of hop flavor with a lower moderate bitterness. Perhaps a touch of pine, and no evident alcohol. Malt doesn't impart any notes that I can perceive. Ample hop flavor with no harshness or astringent qualities.

M: Lower medium in body with moderate carbonation. Mouthful is dry, smooth, and sticky.

Overall: Mellow, yet highly drinkable with nice hop flavor and aroma. Recommended. This was brewed with 23% rye, but I didn't really pick that up. Nonetheless, my two pints went down with ease, and had the dread of work the next day not been looming over my head I would have continued to enjoy this delicious beverage at $2 a pint. I wish I'd skipped the $6 pints of Killer Dana at Pizza Port San Clemente and had more of this.
