Draft at The Farmers' Cabinet.
Pours a dark ruby color that's almost chestnut brown with golden ruby edges and a frothy, creamy two-finger off white head. Very good retetion only slowly fadig into a lasting cap that leaves streaks and spots of lace behind.
Sweet, slightly toasted aroma that isn't as smokey as anticipated. Subtle earthy wood but doesn't have the characteristics of a rauch/typical smoked beer. Lots of sweet notes espcially rye and dark fruit.
Medium bodied with a slightly smokey presence up front that is countered by autumnal spices and sweet malt. Subtle charred wood and faint smoke but not as much as I had hoped for. Zesty, peppery spice with cinnamon and brown sugar countered by a slight syrupy sweetness. Lots of rye as well as some caramel and dark fruit notes. Slight dry finish.

A fine creation by Terry, a hybrid of styles so to speak. Think Roggenbier meets Saison. A darker roggenbier grain bill fermented with saison yeast.
On tap at the farmers' cabinet this brew appears a dark copper brown that is somewhat hazy. When held to the light some ligth shines through the edges with a deeper almost reddish coloration. A thin film of tan appears for a head and quickly recedes holding across the top with a thin line of head.
The smell of this brew initially is dark and fruity with alcohol esters. It gives way to some bready rye malt notes with a little bit of saison yeasty spiciness. Herbal hops bring up the back end of the nose.
The taste is bready grain typical of toasted rye. Some dryer dark fruit flavors, not too much unlike raisin of sorts or plum with a pleasant spice of yeast that is mildly like clove and pepper. There is a modest herbal hoppiness that rounds things out.
This is a medium to full bodied brew that is almost thick and gluey at times. It has a light amount of carbonation. This is a easy drinking brew and a nice take on the style. Certainly worth a chance if you have the opportunity to give it a try.
