I think that after two years, this beer has settled into a flavor that is as good as a Crooked Stave beer is going to get.

The nose is barnyard funk with peaches, the taste essentially a well carbonated sour peach soda with a strange acidic aftertaste.

Overall, a pretty good beer but certainly not worthy of reserve society status. It may not have even been worth the 4-pack of Heady Topper I traded to acquire it.

375ml bottle. Cellar Reserve 2013, Blend #1. Served in a stemmed glass.

Pours a hazy yellow-orange body as you'd imagine peach juice. Two finger white head with fair retention time, eventually dropping into a placid liquid without much film or collar. Smells of sweeter peach behind a somewhat sharp layer of lemon zest, oak, mild biscuity grain. It smells fairly stonefruit-forward, primarily peaches, but as it warms up, it loses a bit of that initial intensity. Zero diactyl. Flavour is similarly stonefruit-forward; in fact it reminds me a fair bit of the recently released WWB Batch #50 (which was released about two years after this beer). Oak, soft lemon (in comparison to the nose) tartness, a mild-moderate acidity, a small bit of mustiness that lingers on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lower in carbonation. Very easy to drink with fair amounts of complexity, but it isn't overwhelmingly acidic by any means. Zero diacetyl at this point. Overall, a tasty peach sour with mild-moderate acidity, fair bit of lemon behind a solid stonefruit flavour and aroma. It's well-rounded; not too intense in any one way with a fair bit of complexity altogether.

Thanks to mrbubber for sharing this one at his tasting.

2013 vintage.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with grain, peach, peach juice, peach puree, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour peach, peach juice, and peach puree flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with fantastic different types of peach characteristics all around.

Serving type: bottle.

Appearance: The liquid pours out with a hazy honey color and the modest head fades away quickly; a few spots of lace

Smell: Buttery and oaky with some fruit that might be peach

Taste: Starts funky and slightly tart but the buttery element builds in the middle and overwhelms the oaky fruit through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with low carbonation

Overall: Clearly a disappointment; something went wrong and this will go down the drain

Thanks, JMBSH, for the opportunity

Bottle acquired at the same time as blend #2 in order to drink them side by side, but drunk on its own because blend #2 was stolen from my cellar. I'm pretty sure the thief did not really like it, after all sour beers are not so popular in the South of France...
A: Pours a clear golden with an impressive foamy white head which fades away quickly. Golden and copper glints, very clear, really good looking.
S: Smell is impressive on the peach, it's as fruity as a white peach juice, with also a lemony scent and distinctive brett flavors. Powerful and brilliant nose.
T: The taste follows pretty much the nose regarding the fruitiness. The peach is still impressive, but there is also a big sourness not foreseen from the nose. The final is dry and focused on brett with a bit of funk and barnyard flavors. Very elegant.
M: Carbonation is rather low and the body is a bit light. I would have appreciated more bubbles to support the strong flavors.
O: I'm quite unsure why this beautiful beer doesn't get higher ratings. As usual, it's a wonderful one brought to us by Crooked Stave.
