so this one is great, its origins aged in trois dames tentation barrels, at least thats what the tap room guy said. if i remember right its an apple type saison aged in red wine barrels. i definitely get the wine tannins in this, it brings some real character texturally to origins, and the apple goes well with the dark fruity funk that beer already contains. it seems to mellow out a lot, integrate flavors well, and it certainly adds another wrinkle to an already very complex base beer. i remember not loving the trois dames beer, though it was a little weird in the combination of flavors, but where that beer was off, its contribution to origins is amazing. the flavor and of apples and the wine go great together, and with the tartness of origins its just amazing. the wood is there, smooth and funky, and carbonation is extremely high in this one. one of the more unique crooked stave beers honestly, and thats saying something because they are all so unique. i wish they would package this one!

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a snifter, the beer is a dark, ruby coloring, with a filmy, off-white head. Nose of grape must, berry, farmhouse funk, sour notes, and some medicinal and herbal highlights. Flavors are very tart and effervesced forward, with an aloe and evergreen highlight to balance the tart grape and stone fruit characteristics. Smooth, big bodied, with a medicinal and sour aftertaste. Smooth, subtle sweet lingering finish. Big beer.
