the first two in the not sour or wild series beers for crooked stave were fantastic, the last two, not so much. i didnt much care for the hoppy porter, and this is a less remarkable version of the first release it seems like, similar hops, just less fresh and fragrant, and still hazy but without the yeast flavor that the first one had. its plenty bitter, and its still pretty good, but there isnt much place for this beer in the ipa market here i dont think, they should stick to remaking that first select series beer. there is a really off-putting menthol sort of vibe to the hops, especially in the finish, it tastes like drinking orange juice right after brushing your teeth, really bad mix. i guess its better than that obviously, but thats what it conjures in my head. not quite enough carbonation either, but i like the fluffy body this one has. i think it will be a bit of a roller coaster ride of hits and misses if these guys decide they are going to give a serious go to making beer with normal yeast strains. in my mind they are 50/50 so far, with the first two being amazing and the latter two really underwhelming. some sort of collaboration with the motet though, so thats cool at least...
