the bartender at their taproom informs me this has no guava in it, which makes it seem like a strange choice of names, tropical fruit suggestions from the hops or not. it seems misleading, but i like the beer, so who cares i guess. it looks a little more refined and cleaned up than some of their other hoppy offerings, and it holds a nice head, but it smells overly bitter to me, piney with the fruity mosaic underneath, not sure if there are other hops in here, but it seems like a new side of mosaic if its in isolation. i reckon there has to be some fruit aspect in here, i get guava for sure, or at least subliminally i do, but i also get pineapple and apricot and white wine, which all sort of make the bitterness seem over the top, it breaks down what the hops had earlier established, so i was a little bummed when it turned a bit past the halfway mark. obvious mosaic in nose and taste, some citrus and pine hints too, plenty of body, sort of starchy and almost creamy, and then very vegetal and bitter and too newish in the finish. solid beer, i would drink a few of these, but it doesnt seem quite dialed in yet. thats being critical, but i have come to have very high expectations for their beers, and so anything other than insanely tasty gets my dander up...
