this special version of salvador sybies, which is already barrel aged, undergoes an additional barrel maturation in leopold rye barrels, which sure transforms something awesome into something thats also awesome, nice to see all these one off barrel variants of some of the best crooked stave beers coming out! this is really nice, and i think the rye adds a lot, it adds a cool textural element, bigger feeling and even woodier than the original, which i think lets the cherries linger a little more, like a catalyst for them. it also serves to cut some of the obviou sweetness from the original whiskey and the fruit, and the wood tempers the acid, so we end up with a more drinkable beer, as much as one could describe something like this as drinkable... great tang from the fruit, super forward, but its the nuances behind the fruit that interest me most here. the oak is awesome, vanilla to it, and lots of it, makes this desserty or baked for a flash, and then the brett, this has a very complimentary funk along with the sourness, classic crooked stave here, and the actual rye grain character, which seems to be the last thing i taste before this is gone. clever beer, cool additional barrel ageing, and while i would love to see this with the silly cybies (a vastly superior base beer in my opinion), this was wonderful to drink on!
