this series of beer has been amazing, i have had four of them now, not sure how many there have been, and while syrah is definitely my favorite of them, i derived a ton of satisfaction from this one, a really cool expression of this grape, its intense, vinous, and delicious, one of their best in awhile. the color is this gorgeous shade of purple, the likes of which i have rarely seen, looks more wine than beer, so much fruit in this! not much head, but i dont miss it. the aroma is awesome, this one as much actual grape as it is wine, some of the others have been straight wine, i like the tart skins with the light bacterial pucker, this one much sweeter and less sour than the riesling edition. great funk and oak too, this is so dialed in and unique. the flavor is as good as the nose, a bit sweet for a moment, really ripe summery fruit though, its natural and awesome. i get a little of that dry cerealy thing towards the finish but not much malt really here at all, a large portion of the fermentables obviously coming from the grapes. the flavors are so dense, but yet the beer drinks oddly light, its so interesting, juicy, tannic, woody, a little less bretty and lambic-esque than the riesling, but quite funky in its own right. i want to try these after some time in the cellar, but the prices are absurd. awesome series of beers though, i loved this one.
