a really beautiful new one from crooked stave, my first of their member berries grape based wild beer series, on tap at the source, pretty pinkish red color, a little deeper than pink, almost a brassy or copper shine to it too, and a smallish head. it smells amazing, the best feature of the beer for sure, straight lambic, super mature bretty funkiness, old world woody mustiness, and the right amount of supporting acidity. there is also a lot of the fruit, sweet and dense sort of port wine-like to me, cherry and blackberry tones to it, some tartness from the skins, winey and beery at the same time, mouthwatering and massively appealing! the fruit is dosed perfectly in the flavor, its there the whole time but sort of flashes brighter at certain moments, especially right in the middle when it has a sweet italian red wine vibe, dinner table action, complex but still retaining its natural fruitiness. the wild aspect isnt quite as refined in the flavor as in the nose, some light cheesy newness, it hasnt quite cleaned itself up yet, but its well on its way. good clean acidity though, and wonderful woodiness all the way through. really drinkable for its strength, even without a ton of carbonation, and overall this is super impressive, fully wild and old worldy, inspired an great. not sure i would buy a magnum for 75 bucks, which as far as i know is the only way to acquire this one, but its worth getting into the taproom while its on for a glass or two! hoping to track down the others in this series too, a promising new line of brews for these guys!
