Poured from the can into a tulip glass a simple 1F white foam head develops. The beer is a cloudy yellow orange 80% opaque juice with big chunks of particulate swirling around as they make their way to the bottom of the glass.
On the nose the first thing that hits is a really off note kind of like rotting vegetables or maybe worse. Peach, apricot and a tiny bit of light green hops fill out the aroma. Now I have it, the strange off note reminds me of vomit.
On the palate things unfortunately follow the nose with peach, orange, apricot notes mixed in with an effervescent acidic tang and the vomit note.
Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat slick with average carbonation and an acidic finish.
This is a hard beer to drink. I tried 2 of the 4 cans before pouring down the drain and returning the other 2 to the shop. I am not sure what happened here. Is the off note a peculiar part of the fermentation or is it beer that has gone bad? If you try this see if you pick up on the off note, it should not be hard as it dominates. If you want a great fruit type imperial go to Avery Pears of Peaches and enjoy.
Post Script- Seems the offending note is a defect known as butyric acid and smells and tastes like baby vomit. This off flavor at these levels should not be in beer IMHO. Some use Brett to convert small amounts of this in a brew into the more benign ethyl butyrate which imparts a tropical flavor instead of the off note.
