Bottle: Poured a lightly hazy golden color ale with a small white foamy head with limited retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light vinous notes also noticeable. Taste is a bit of a mess with limited cohesion and no sense of direction. Tart notes are easily distinguishable with Chardonnay notes not nearly as noticeable. Body is light with very low carbonation. I either got a bad bottle and just don’t enjoy this beer.

Draft serving at the old taproom into a snifter, reviewed from notes. Hazy, yellow to orange in color with a light, fading head. Tart green fruits - grape, citrus, apple - make for an acidic character with a lightly flavored malt backbone. Dry with touches of oak. Moderate carbonation with a crisp, lighter mouthfeel. Hay, bread, lemon. Quite simple and refreshingly tart.

Wow...just wow. As a member of the 1st CS Reserve Society that did not renew, I am kicking myself right now. Been letting this beer sit in the cellar until now...

Bam! Fresh citrus fruit, melon, oak, funk...complex, delicious.

Great finish, as the flavor never really dissipates and goes on and on. Does not have the "cheesy"/vomit character that some CS beers do. Very clean and crisp, yet funky, complex and fruity. Not overly sour, just the right amount to give a pucker and keep one coming back for more.

Well done...really, this is a phenomenal beer.

375ml bottle opened on 6.25.13

A - Pours a clody, medium orange with a red tint and a fizz light tan head that fades very fast.

S - Strong chardonnay, acid wood barrel, some apple/pear fruit.

T - Lots of chardonnay wine barrel, but also lots of layers of peach, apple, pear, wow! Great, but seems to get weaker as I drink it done.

D - Good carbonation with a medium body, tart.

O -Layers hiding under the wine barrel, fruits come out early with a touch of tartness, but fade later on.

Reviewed as part of Blind BIF round 8

A: Pours a very light orangish color. Light carbonation yielding little to no head.

S: Vinous, white wine, slight funk. An in identifiable sweetness present. Some sort of citrus fruit, but not sure what.

T: Lightly tart and acidic, but with a buttery sweetness. Chardonnay barrels perhaps? Quite tasty. Not quite sure if its one I've had before or not, but it's certainly Crooked Stave.

M: Light bodied and dryly crisp. Subtle carbonation.

O: Really tasty, and way to easy to drink. Tart, funky, and lightly fruity. Perfect on a hot evening.

Bottle thanks to mjmadsen21 poured into a Hill Farmstead wine stem.

Pour: Pours a mostly still clear orange. A minimal, bubbly white head recedes immediately and leaves no lacing.

Smell: Interesting. Bright with white grapes and oak, and a distinct butter. Almost like buttered toast, which is perplexing. Some bright lemon tartness.

Taste: Similar to the nose with a heavy chardonnay presence, and some toasted oak. Not roasty, but buttery and clean. Bright lemon and a nice funk. Finishes with a lingering chardonnay and buttery oak.

Mouthfeel: Really refreshing, with low carbonation. This drinks more like a wine than any other beer I've ever had. Finish lingers with the lemon and chardonnay for quite a while.

Overall: A particularly unique wild from Crooked Stave. The barrel presence here is heavy, I think for better.

Thanks to mrbubbler for sharing this one at Retsinis' tasting.

Pours a murky light yellow with a foamy white head that fades to nothing. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour and tart with malt, grain, butter, and white wine aromas. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Pours somewhat hazy yellow with a big white foam cap that stuck around. Excellent sticky lacing down the glass.

Nice aromas as well. Dry white wine, grape must, a little black pepper and tart apple.

Drinks very close to a chardonnay as well. Excellent dry wine notes along with the grape must. Saison characters are restrained and the wine barrel shines through. Finishes oaky and incredibly dry with a nice tart sourness.

Light bodied with good carbonation. Leaves a trying spicy tingly feeling on the tongue.

Outstanding beer! I've never had Persica, but of all the CS stuff I've had, this is hands down the best. I hope this one gets made again.

Incredible smooth and drinkable. Unique pleasurable aroma, yes white wine, saison, spice.Tart fruit and well controlled. A world of lace, white head on peachy golden body. A little spice heat burn on finish.
Thanks Jason Bach for this expensive little diamond.
