Our dark wheat beer is impressive with its creamy white foam. A fruity-fresh sweetness and hints of mature bananas harmonise with delicious flavours of roasted malt, sparkling and full-bodied with a light caramel taste on the first sip. An excellent accompaniment from hearty meals and game to chocolate and nut desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Copenhagen 14/10 2016. 50 cl bottle from Meny. Two lions, a golden shield and other Heraldic stuff on the label. When you brag about being the oldest brewery in the world you probably need some shields and golden lions to prove it.

Pours dark amber with a creamy white head. Moderate lacing. Settles slowly as a 0,5 cm thick layer of foam.

Aroma of banana, lemonade with oranges and a little sugary.

Medium strong carbonation and a watery palate.

Flavor is quite watery. Medium sweet and lemonadeish with a sour tang.

Not bad - but I could use a bit more intensity.

Poured from bottle, served at 35-40F.
Pour || Amber Brown, little foam
Smell || Dark wheat, not much nose
Taste || Mildly aggressive carbonation. Dark wheat. Not as aggressive carbonation as Erdinger Dunkel, but the wheat finish is less strong. BUT, this is alot easier-drinking / is more refreshing despite the wheat being less strong and the cocoa flavor not being as apparent.

Regardless, much prefer the flavor of Hacker-Pschorr Dunkel if I had to choose between the three.

Fills a Weihenstephaner Weizen glass with hazy, old copper brown beer (SRM 17-19). A two plus inch beige head is tight as it gradually settles ever so slowly. Fine carbonation randomly races throughout, reinforcing the head. A second pour of about one ounce drops yeast and increases the haze a small amount.

Light hops are in balance with fruity yeast and lots of sweet malt. Some graininess, but primarily banana, cherry, and clove fill the aroma.

Sweetness is well controlled, and there is only a hint of bitterness. Light bubblegum is more of a suggestion than a feature. Lightly toasted malt forms a backdrop for bananas and cherries and very light clove. The clove is barely noticeable. The finish is mild, with a lingering sensation of Juicy Fruit gum.

This one has a light body and silky smooth texture. There is no trace of alcohol and it is full of soft carbonation.

This is such a great beer to relax with. American brewers really ought to step up and produce more of this style. I enjoyed it on a bitterly cold winter evening.

Thoroughly hazy brown, yet not fully opaque, with a tall tan foam head.

A bit of a darker hefe in Weihenstaphaner's case, like a banana or zucchini bread but with a wheat or even pumpernickel base. At the same time, there's a slightly more bitter contrast, almost grassy, backed by plenty of winter spices. At times I get a hint of bubblegum, while it's simultaneously savory and fulfilling.

The soft froth is very pleasant, though the body is still on the lighter side, gently coming to a crisper, semi-dry and tingly finish.

On draught
Hazy Mahogany/tea colored, high head retention, head lasting nearly to the bottom of the glass.
nice lacing forms that is a little slippery.
Nicely caramelized malt, banana-clove flavor. Hints of tea, chocolate, molasses.
The finish is malty, smooth, delicious.
