The brew has wonderful bourbon & vanilla flavor and aroma from the barrel as well as chocolate, caramel and roast flavors from the non-barrel aged version of the brew.
We created this brew to honor some of Daniel Irons’ later years working as a logger in Alaska. To capture his logging spirit, we aged two separate batches of Daniel Irons Imperial Oatmeal Stout on Jim Beam Bourbon Barrels for 11 months before bottling.

Although it is a bit Boozy (heavy Bourbon notes) it is a nice sipping/"winter WarmEr" beer. no head/no lace ( I think it was due to the way they poured it though).

Thanks to Retsinis for sharing this one at the Revenge Of Instant Replay bottleshare held at Instant Replay in Canoga Park, CA.
Barrel Series # 2. Enjoy by 4/1/15.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a really nice bourbon barrel aged presence that works very well with the base beer.
