Our Kölsch takes us on a brief reprieve from crisp lagers into a northern German tradition of clean, cold fermented ales. We brewed this Kölsch with Weyerman Köln malt which imparts gentle notes of honey that are balanced with the floral qualities of Hallertauer and Tettnanger Hops. We release this beer on Rosenmontag, the highlight of the German Karneval, the last great party before Lent, the biggest of which is celebrated in Köln Germany. Kölle Alaaf!

Initial Impression:
When I spotted this from Enegren Brewing Company at the bottle shop, I knew I had to review it. The beers I’ve had from them so far have been fantastic examples of traditional ales and lagers—perfect beers for a relaxing afternoon in the sun.
Appearance:
Served at 42°F in a pint glass. Pours a pale gold with light straw-yellow hues (SRM ~4), brilliantly clear. A frothy, creamy white head forms about a finger thick with average retention, receding somewhat quickly and leaving bits of lacing behind. Clean, bright, and exactly the kind of presentation I want from a Kölsch.
Aroma:
Malt-forward with a restrained but expressive hop profile. Light toast, biscuit, and a gentle malt sweetness provide the foundation. Supporting hop character brings soft herbal notes, fresh grass, white pepper, light pine, and a faint earthy quality.
Everything comes across clean and balanced, with the hops adding complexity without pulling attention away from the delicate malt profile.
Flavor:
Malt-driven but nicely balanced by the hop character. Toasted bread crust, biscuit, and soft malt sweetness carry through the palate without becoming heavy.
The hops contribute minerality, white pepper, bay leaf, grass, light honeysuckle, and restrained bitterness that keeps the beer crisp and highly drinkable. There’s also a faint green apple note present, though it stays subtle and never becomes distracting.
Mouthfeel:
Light-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly carbonic on the palate, balanced by a soft malt roundness. Finishes crisp, clean, and refreshing.
Overall Impression:
This is a really enjoyable Kölsch. The slightly fuller malt backbone gives the beer enough depth to stay interesting, while the hop character keeps it bright, crisp, and refreshing.
That faint green apple note keeps it from being flawless, but it’s minor in the grand scheme. Overall, this is exactly the kind of beer I want on a warm afternoon—easy-drinking, flavorful, and incredibly refreshing. Perfect for relaxing outside on Mother’s Day.

This is the 2026 edition. Pours a clear amber with tall foam in the Zunft Kölsch glass. Pleasant grainy aroma. There's a slight perfumey nose. Bright and slushy on the tongue. Flavors of cereal with a little greenery. Hint of astringency in the aftertaste and an increasing bitterness as you sip. Overall this is more like a light Pilsner than a Kölsch but it's quite quaffable as a rather hoppy super pale ale. From the 16 oz can purchased at San Diego Wine & Beer. Dated 02/16/26.

7/13/25 - (The Red Dwarf) (Las Vegas, Nevada) Bar Notes: $7.58 with tax 16oz draft pour, 4.8% ABV.

Appearance: 16 oz draft served in a shaker pint yields an orange somewhat unfiltered appearance, creamy white head leaving a thin layer over the base. Sustained medium plus carbonation throughout. 3.25

Aroma: Faint bread and cracker aroma. Hard to gather. 2.75

Taste: Much fuller flavor, nice cracker bread, salty, a bit of pepper, and light honey peaking through.Very nice. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Dry and a little more hoppy and bitter than a typical Kolsch, but working for me. Drinks a bit higher than the ABV. Balanced, hops balancing out the sweet malt flavors. Salty cracker start to finish. 4.0

Overall: This is a good Kolsch, despite the minimal aroma and slight unfiltered appearance. Enjoying and would order again/recommend. 4.0

Trying this for the 2nd time, from a pint can made in the past 30 days. Really nice to view this in a classic Erdinger glass, the retention, lacing and bubbling last a good while. The nose is confusing, not quite sure what I'm getting, taste is bready with some lemongrass, and a crisp mouthfeel. It's not my favorite Kolsch, but a worthy offering from an excellent brewery.

Kölsch pours a golden color with lots of bubbles and a big, long-lasting, frothy head. The aroma is bitter, grainy, and a bit weak. The flavor is strong and slightly bitter, with creamy butter notes, bright cereal, and no frills. Good feel. Overall, it a very flavorful, plan Kolsch.
