Protector is a full bodied, balanced IPA that combines just the right amount of malt background with a floral and citrusy hop profile.
Protector was the nickname of our Golden Retriever, Duke, who would “protect” the brewery from evil spirits back during our homebrew days.

Pours an amber orange with an off white head. Aromas and flavors of citrus, pine needles, and floral qualities. There's a bitter finish following the medium bodied mouthfeel. There's some alcohol heat. Overall this is pretty good.

Good surprise pick up on draft at Catalina Brew House. Good hop character and very drinkable. Would certainly try again.

On tap during the 1st Anniversary party.
Reviewed from notes.
A: Pours a hazy amberish orange with a thin white head which leaves spotty lace.
N: Very muted floral and citrus (grapefruit) along with some herbal notes. Perhaps served and consumed too cold.
T: Nice sticky pine followed by citrus and some sweet malts. Well balanced.
M: Medium body and semi-moderate carbonation. Dry and bitter finish.
O: Enjoyed on a warm afternoon. Easy drinking.

Consumed at LAB Brewing Company, Moorpark CA on May 28th, 2012.
Beer is a clear, medium amber/orange. A very fine head contributes to excellent sheeting.
Oddly, not much aroma from the pint. Some hard to define citrus.
A dash of sweet malt up front before strong, prickly pine resin and bitter oranges obliterate it. Malts show up again briefly as a nebulous sweetness, but flavor quickly segues to parching and dry at the end. VERY bitter as it lingers on the palate for a week after each sip. Massive amount of flavor.
In the mouth, the beer is well-carbonated, lively and slightly oily.
Another West Coast hop bomb. I did not finish my pint (really a 12 ounce pour). I didn't enjoy this one in any way, though it's probably executed exactly as intended.
